Default Dragonmark Kensai Build - Opinions please!

    Hey there,

I've just created my first halfling build. It is going to be a 13 Rogue/6 Fighter/1 Monk Kensai build with all Dragonmark feats and hopefully insane damage dealing capabilities. However one problem that I'm facing with this build is that I'm missing exactly 1 feat to take Power Attack.

I thought about removing Imp. Critical Slashing and using Mineral II Khopeshes instead of Radiance. It would still hurt very much on banishing weaps etc. though. Another possibility would be to remove OTWF and use Kukris for my off-hand. What do you guys think about it? Any other input/advice is also welcome of course! Especially concerning enhancements, alignment(although there's not to choose from here) and skills. And do tell me what you think about the build in general please!

    So long,
    Dr. Goodspeed

Note: This is going to be a veteran char, so don't worry about feat order between lvls 1-4 in case you want to criticize there.

Could going ranger 6 be any better?
A halfling walks into a bar with a mephit on his shoulder. The bartender says "Hey, that's pretty cool. Where'd you get it?" The mephit says "Korthos Island. They're everywhere."

Taking ranger 6 without taking tempest costs you:
    32hp (6levels at 2 per +20 from fighter toughness)
1 feat (gain TWF, ITWF; lose 3 fighter feats + weapon specialization req for kensai)
+1 to hit and damage, +2 seeker (from kensai weapon mastery)
+1 to combat feat DCs, +1 to diplomacy (from kensai)
+2 weapon damage (from weapon specialization)

in exchange you free up 10AP, gain 24 skill points (and search as a class skill), Ram's Might, and 2 favored enemies, plus some miscellany that doesn't figure in, like wild empathy (oooh).

If you do take tempest, you lose 3 more feats for 10% alacrity.

    Dr. Goodspeed:
Consider taking rogue haste boost III and IV, unless you expect to use you haste boosts exclusively for Showtime.

    Default kensai 6 is weak

    18 rogue/2 fighter is a good split

    i could see 12 fighter/7 rogue/1 monk as a build

lose the dms, they are useless at end game for this type of build

I did consider it in fact, but I'm quite short on action points with this build. Maybe I'll try to cut some corners and get Haste Boost III.

I disagree. 18rogue/2 fighter is rarely a good split imo because you trade 1d6 sneak dmg and a rogue bonus feat for a fighter bonus feat.

Fighter 12/Rogue 7/1 Monk? Don't like it. You get evasion, you get some nice skill points, but no rogue bonus feats, no imp. uncanny dodge, and only minor sneak attack dmg. It's just not worth taking 7 rogue levels for imho.

However I considered creating a 12 fighter build but completely without any rogue splash. Probably more something like Fighter 12/Ranger 6/Monk 2. However I wanted to make maximum use of the Halfling enhancements and I don't think Halfling Guilde works like Backstabbing on a weapon. You only receive bonus sneak attack damage when you actually sneak attack, not when the attack would qualify as a sneak attack afaik. Thus I'm kind of stuck with at least 13 Rogue levels if I want to play a halfling.

Lose the DM's? No way. They become kind of useless in the very very late endgame when you're no fail on heal scrolls but that's a looong way to go. Until then the Dragonmarks(especially Greater) are absolutely priceless imho. Furthermore with 8char not having Skill Focus: UMD you need a lot of equip/buffs/clickies to be no fail on heal scrolls so they can't be used in the heat of battle most of the times or to drop a quick heal on someone. Consequently Greater Dragonmark is still viable and very convenient for endgame content imho.

looks to me like you are taking rogue solely for the sneak attack boosts, and UMD. Albeit these are awesome abilities to have if you dont splash the rogue lvls and went more fighter your likely to end up with higher dmg in the end anyhow. considering otwf w/ min2 khopeshs you can get high dps. your dmg would only really suffer from your current build when there is an intim tank or someone pushing more dps than you. if you went with fighter your base dps will be high enough to still do considerable dmg, and you would lose the umd but is it really that important as a dps build. IMHO no. I play an intimitank with DWA and shield gone kensai and still do more dmg than the rogues in my groups just from the crits/ cleave/ g cleave which you can add into the buiild with PA and the extra feats.
Remember DPS doesnt mean against a single target. =D
Also Kensai 1 is a nice increase but Ken2, and 3 are where the dps is really built up. 8 str clicky for 1 min 7 times per ret, and +1 crit chance

Can you present any calculations to back up your claims? And how do you know how much damage the rogues in your grp do? Killing Blows? You know that killing blows =/= damage, do you? No offense, but I think you have no idea how much damage sneak attack adds with all the enhancements...

After some thinking I decided that I'll probably drop OTWF and take Power Attack instead, since this build should have plenty to hit. I'll take Power attack at lvl 18 though so I can take Imp. Critical Slashing earlier.

    More opinions and input please!
