Default Need help with unplayable FPS

I've got a problem ever since I upgraded motherboards and I can't figure out how to fix it after searching google and these forums and trying every single driver and "fix" I've found with no results I've decided to make a post. So the problem is as follows.

    System Specs:
Mainboard - DFI LANParty DK 790FX-B M2RSH "Dark"
    CPU - Phenom 9600 x4
Memory - 4gb G. Skill "Pi" ddr2 800 (upgrading to 8gb ddr1066 in 2 weeks but don't think it's the ram I've tried 4gb corsair XMS 2 with the same results and then tried adding them together for 8gb and still nothing...)
Video - 4870 1gb (Two of them crossfire IS DISABLED BECAUSE THIS GAME DOESN'T SUPPORT TO VIDEO CARDS...WHY ARE THEY ADDING DirectX11?!?!?!)
Hard-drive -SATA II 1tb WD for windows and various other stuff; 120gb raptor SATA II for games (DDO)
Sound - Onboard Realtek (Also tried with a X-FI xtremegamer, no difference in performance)
    OS - Windows 7 Ultimate
Power Supply - 850w Corsair power supply

So when I'm playing I get extremelly random frames per second at times it will dip down into the single digits...sometimes as low as 1, then it will be back up at 60...then back down again. I don't get it! Anyways I've tried so many combinations of things to try to remedy this problem but have come up with nothing! I don't think it's a hardware issue...I can play all sorts of demanding games on the highest settings without problems with directX10 enabled (Battlefield: Bad Company 2 just released a couple weeks ago runs smooth as butter maxed out)
Even when I run the game on very low settings the FPS is the same as Very high, and turning directX 10 on or off makes no difference either. Here's DXdiag - hope someone can help me.

Default I am having similar issues. Doesn't seem like Turbine cares though.

Every 5-10 minutes my frame rate drops to almost 1 just like you. This all started with Update 3, and got worse with the latest server move. Apparently Turbine DOES NOT CARE about its players because they have failed to address this issue at all. If by Mon 3-22-10 this is not at the very least addressed by Turbine. I will be asking for a full refund on my 6 month subscription. I am getting tired of constant updates that add more content, yet don't improve playability. I can't play the game anymore (literally). I freeze up just standing in the Marketplace. Been running the EXACT SAME setup for 9 months now. This problem is not on my end! FIX THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!!! I guess this is the end of DDO for me and many others. That sux too cause this is a great game 90% of the time. Right now its more 10% though.

Sparky, create your own thread for help.

Dankmn, I've never delt with dual card systems, so I don't know. However, given what you've got, I'm assuming you played with trying to cap your GPU memory and randmac speeds such to where they do not change?

I ask because I've got a 4?80 myself, and via the ATI Catalist, I've watched my memory speed and ramdac speed fluctuate. When it drops so does my frame rate. But due to the fact I've got control of the fan speed, for whatever reason those two bounce about.

Also, Pull out the second card and try running with just one. That will tell you point blank if it is a dual or single card issue in nature.

DirectX 10, and 11 is more than just number of video cards.

And I know you'll hate this aspect, but if the issues only started to happen after you changed motherboards.... Well, update the mobo drivers and bios and see if that helps.

The last (and doubtful) idea is that you may have a usb device failing. (I always keep PS2 mice and keyboard around for computer fixes) The disconnect reconnect would cause issues as you describe as well.

What was your old Mobo? And I presume you had to reinstall the OS when you upgraded?
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

Old mobo - asus m2r32-mvp also used a dual video card setup, we'll see what happens here I'm going to be ordering 8gb of ddr2 1066, and a solid state disk just for installing games on. I personally am leaning towards the memory....on another note holy **** does this motherboard have A TON OF BIOS UPDATES the most I've ever seen for any board! If I can figure out how to run this bios update with a flash drive we'll be set...stupid DFI tells you to use a floppy disk! I don't even have a floppy drive in my case lol

    Fake USB for floppy.

The BIOS update could solve your issue.

    As for the RAM testing,
    http://www.memtest.org/

    Let that run all night.

We've been seeing this alot lately with Win7 and ATI cards as well, for some reason the drivers are not reporting to DirectX any details about the files themselves. Whats not clear right now is if its a Windows 7, DirectX or driver related issue though. I'd check wtih your card makers site and see about doing a driver uninstall and reinstall.

Per the dual-cards currently the game doesn't report to Crossfire/SLI what card should render what elements are on screen so it leaves it up to the drivers. What we usually recommend is enabling "Alternate Frame Rendering" (I think on crossfire its a different option, or buried in the CCC utility).

Basically that has card 1 render the odd numbered frames and card 2 renders the odd numbered frames. Its a form of a "safe mode" for Crossfire/SLI systems when running software that doesn't natively support it.

So you have even chances of your cards not over heating.

I know what you were meaning, Mirth, but I had to tease.

    Default update:

"enabling "Alternate Frame Rendering" (I think on crossfire its a different option, or buried in the CCC utility)." I cannot find this anywhere in the CCC

Updated bios, didn't work, ran memtest found no problems. Despite what you all seem to think I do not think this is a hardware problem, I think it's a game built for XP being played on windows 7 problem that the DDO support team needs to address, seeing as windows 7 is very popular..I like my fancy graphics and shouldn't have to run this game on windows XP to play this game, there is going to be more and more people upgrading/switching to windows 7 and a lot of those people are going to be building 2 video card or more set-ups if they are PC gamers.

I'm going to all of the computer games I play that run flawlessly on my computer with completely maxed out settings...why can't ddo work even on medium graphics or low it runs terribly especially in the shroud?

Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Battlefield 2 (A game built for XP that works on windows 7 wow no ways)
    Fallout 3
    Bioshock 1&2
    Crysis, Crysis Wars
Grand Theft Auto IV: Worst console to PC port ever and it still runs better than ddo
    Tropico 3
WoW (Never payed for it, checked it out on free shards) Still runs better than DDO and built for windows XP in mind
    Lost Planet
    Counter-Strike Source

And SO MANY MORE, this is the only game I am having trouble with which leads me to believe this is NOT a hardware problem. What say you ddo forums?

Did you find out why DirectX cannot report your Driver files correctly? Also did you install the 10.2 drivers and if so can you try installing the 9.12 (we've had some players with their DirectX reporting just what yours is for driver version/date that rolling back to 9.12 fixed their issues caused by missing driver data).

(Those games you mention all use completely different graphics engines and I'm fairly sure most of them are much older engines and/or are OpenGL based not Direct3D.)
