Is this spell actually useful pre-end and end game?
I find that I get hit pretty much for the same amount of damage with or without it

It's very useful.....you take damage from spells still because most damage spells don't have spell pen checks.
However I guarantee u it's blocking a lot of non damage spells.
I've never noticed it doing anything when it was on. I don't have the single or mass version, but I get it from party clerics a lot. With so few spells actually checking against spell resistance (and most of those are instant death spells that deathblock catches anyway), I couldn't even remotely justify a spell slot for it.
It's far more useful at lower levels when the NPCs throw more non-damaging stuff at you like Hold and (resistable) Dance.
On Favoured prob not worth slot scrolls give 22 res if want to hand out. On a cleric I always have it does help alot.

So whats the verdict guys? I have it slotted right now but I find that it doesn't really do anything (i'm running amrath quests right now)
Not worth it.
How many spells do monsters cast at you which check against spell resistance, and are NOT covered by Deathward, Freedom Of Movement, Remove Fear, or some other common item or spell?
Greater Command (which Impact claims is prevented by pro:evil), Vampiric Domination (which IS covered by pro:evil)...and um...err...uh..well..hmm...
Ah, yes, Otto's Irresistable dance. Problem being, hardly any monsters cast this, and while it is very common from epic difficulty wildmen, those wildmen are also CR35, and trivially pass the SR check.
So why bother with this spell at all?
Thanks for the detailed reply Matuse
Its simple. Go to anyquest loaded with undead casters and feel their enfeeblment fatigue exhustion feeblemind... it can be really annoying. TYes you can drink a pot... but...

I am a human whether you like it or not
Let's see..take up a valuable and precious spell slot with something that is ridiculously situational.
Or cast a Heal, or drink a lesser restore pot (which you likely carry around anyway).
Seems like a no-brainer to me, especially as SR is by no means guaranteed protection against those effects.
