    Default Experts please take a look. Human THF Pure Barb

    Hello and thanks for taking a look.

    My intention is to build a Human Barbarian that follows the well understood ( if you read any at all anyway ) guide lines for a party barbarian. I like to solo a fair bit but understand there are far better classes to do that with, still this should be o.k. in certain crawls I would think.

    I've read a ton of the Barb builds and came to the conclusions that 1) It's hard to screw up a pure barbarian and 2) saves can be an issue if not attended to. To that end I've built BiPolar Pauline. Have I missed anything or not taken anything far enough? This will be my first Barb and I have the tomes in the bank waiting ( I'll buy the +1 tome from the DDO store )

    I like it quite a bit right down the lines I am planning on making my next barbarian if half orcs dont get here first. The only thing I saw you will wish you had done different is make sure to take frenzied bezerker 111 at 18. Its just that good. Wish I was as lucky with my tomes as you are planing on being.

    Take your power attack enhancements as late as possible and your extend and extra rage enhancements as early as possible.

    Listen is worthless, take spot instead. Don't put skill points into swim, its useless for a barb and also a str based skill, put your points into skills more worthwhile like UMD. Jump only needs 10 points total to help while leveling.

    Feats in this order:

    Toughness
    THF
    PA
    Cleave
    IC-slashing
    ITHF
    GTHF
    Stunning Blow

    Thanks all of you. I have the advantage of having a brother and a few good friends who have many many years invested and had tomes in their respective banks. They pulled me in from another MMO After reading as much as I have on these forums I know how lucky I am to have those.

    I didn't know about the Barbarian critical rage. I was going off the character planner and reading each item as they became available.

    @Consumer Spot is not a class skill so would be nil compared to listen which is a class skill. Is Listen that bad that I'd want a neutered spot ( HA !!! ) ? I invested in jump just because it was extra points and thought a class skill would suffice for the investment. You say 10 points only, but on the other class forums they say take it to "x" level then get to the cap of 40 with a scroll or spell. Is that not necessary with a Barb? I admit ignorance so appreciate any light on the subject. Given the advice would it be best to forgo listen and spot altogether and invest in UMD? Would that be needed if I plan to run in full parties most of the time? Sorry I didn't mention HOW I would be playing and with whom. I guess that would have been good information.

    Ok reworked with the advice given. I'm 10 HP short of my first build but looks like I got most of what I attempted before in. I took extend rage IV in lieu of human improved recovery II. Should I swap them back?

    At level 20 you'll be rocking atleast 20 mins of rage per shrine so you would get more use out of the healing amp. Maxing out enhancements lines is often not worth the AP investment as each tier has an increased cost for the same gain.

    You'd be best off just adapting shades max dps build from WF to human.

    Will stunning blow really be landing at L 18+? I mean, you will have a DC of 20 before item and rage bonuses. I am thinking, maybe +10 with items and while raging? Am I missing something here? (I mean, a monk at 20 has a DC of 30 on stunning fist before any wis bonus is even taken into account, iirc, and from what I have been told even that has problems landing in late game.)

    With a 5% weighted weapon you'll be getting a 50+ DC when fully equiped. I'll find shades post about landing it in epic content.

    yes it will, and even in epic.

    I run with a monk in epic who has stunning fist + weighted 5%, and he seems to land his sb pretty well. I also pack a weighted 5% maul myself, and have ranks in wf tactics, and my dc sits at around 50ish, so whoever's telling you that stunning blow has problems landing is misinformed hehe.

    for a feat starved WF barb, I'd take stunning blow over toughness any day. I have 16 starting con, 0 toughness feats, and still end up with 750ish hp when raged. I have no issues with DPS tanking hard tod... I find toughness to be way too much of a novelty feat for barbs who have an astronomical amount of hp.

    Looking a little harder at your second post I would drop the hardy rage line for improved recovery 2 but thats ok eather way you can reset enhancements every 3 days anyway so try it how you like it.
    I like spot over listen any day even at half price listen only shows red dots on the floor with good spot you can see a lot of stelthed mobs making out wich are the casters and killing them before they get off even one spell. Makes up for a low will save if a large portion of casters dont get to cast. Clerics and bards need to die first.
    As for jump I maxed mine and never regreted it.
    Did not put anything in swim and never regreted it.
    Dont get down if while you are leveling there is a tough spot between 7-11 you will be wide eyed from 12 on.

    I run with a monk in epic who has stunning fist + weighted 5%, and he seems to land his sb pretty well. I also pack a weighted 5% maul myself, and have ranks in wf tactics, and my dc sits at around 50ish, so whoever's telling you that stunning blow has problems landing is misinformed hehe.

    for a feat starved WF barb, I'd take stunning blow over toughness any day. I have 16 starting con, 0 toughness feats, and still end up with 750ish hp when raged. I have no issues with DPS tanking hard tod... I find toughness to be way too much of a novelty feat for barbs who have an astronomical amount of hp.

    Well. BiPolar was taken so I went with Swiftrage Bloodfury. Ooooo SOOooo Barbarianish

    I played her for the first time last night and a few things became apparent to me.

    1) She mows through the starting area like a hot knife through butter.

    2) Rest shrines hardly move my HP bar at all.

    So far I solo'd every starter quest and outside area ( before I went into Stormreach ) up to hard. The only real issues were the shaman who would fear? ( I'm not sure ) me so I wouldn't attack for a while. Other than that it was pretty straight forward. I used the rage on the red text mobs. Well I did until I was ambushed in the butchers path when I did the storm reach quests. That leads me to a question. When I lit off Rage, I had been attacking the horde in front of me and my +1 Great Sword was doing an FA attack, but after rage was on it appeared to be a 360 attack? The lil freaks were dropping all around me. Is that just an illusion or does it expand my attack arch?

    I gotta say, the Barb forums rock. Excellent advice and very kind people. I liked the server I was on last night too, Kyber? Got into a discussion about old school D&D. I guess there are a few old farts like me playing on Kyber

    EDIT: Was bored here at work ( Shhhhhh !!!! ) and tweeked my build a bit more based on the advice given after the 2nd attempt. This one is the hell or high water build. No more changes till I find something I dislike or find I lack. I decided to maximize my incoming healing as I'm a paper tiger any way, anything I can do to lessen the burden on the healers will go a long way if I'm having aggro managing issues ( which happens to the best of us from time to time ) On sound advice I didn't delve as deep into the stats by way of enhancements due to diminishing returns ( although I did take greater human adaptability: Con because I like round numbers )
