    Default Real assaults.

I would like to see a real assault/war situation. Like waves of 1000 base level kobolds rushing your outpost, or sets of whole tribes and clans lining up to try and take the human effort out of Stormreach.

Do any of the devs feel managing all those mobs would be too much for the client or server to handle?

I remember talking to a few of the editors of PnP 3.5 and they described some battles they held on game days where the PC's would come across thousands of some enemy marching to a battle.

Given the epicness of ddo, I think it would be a great avenue to add that kind of content. I think UO did something like that a few times, but it was random spawns for x amount of time. I am talking soo many animated heads that players feel real fear from the massive swarm coming down on them.

    Ok, rant over. LOL

    Kobald Assault Epic.

Neat idea, but as of right now, the data centers would implode.

But keep that in mind forthe future though.

My PERFECT game would be DDO married to Medieval II: Total War. How AWESOME would commanding armies be in an MMO? It's something else to do at level 20.

Is it later enough now? LOL

With shaders and multi core gpus nowndays, they could push the control onto the client and use the datacenters/servers to refresh the mob spawn rates from trigger shaders in the instance.

A nice lag experiement would be to get a high enough dr and fortification to stand in kobold assault and never take damage. I think a maxed out wf on dr with some fire resistance could do it and see if the game can handle 200 or more monsters in the zone around you.

None of the game is rendered on the servers, so it doesn't matter how cool your video card is.
What matters is that the servers are doing all the physics calcs, damage calcs, and AI logic for all the enemies/NPCs.

Server can't handle it. Back when... and the dead shall rise was released, it had a bug such that skeletons were spawned in infinitely.

    The LAG.....

It was the first time I could say i killed lag however.

It isn't about rendering. It is about offloading as much of the calculations the server does onto the client, and the client offloading some of it to their multiple gpu cores.

Edit: Thinking about it though, shovelling all that work on the clients would be bad because sync issues.

I've always wanted to stand on the walls of Helm's Deep in a game and watch the ten thousand orcs coming marching up the valley... and then fire my bow over and over and over while they attempt to ram open the gates.

It is like going to a museum and bragging about how fast you made it through. Or bragging about how fast you finished a good steak.

****. Well I wish I was behind the screen so I could see how their farm is managed. Not that it would make an immediate change, but I could at least understand the stop-gaps for the games flow.

I believe he's suggesting that be handled client-side (to which I would respond, "No", but that's besides the point).
