Cool Star Wars VS. Star Trek

I had a little discussion last night with my wife. She adores the Star Wars movies. I happen to enjoy Star Trek movies more.
I feel Star Trek has stuck more to it's roots, where as Star Wars has dolled itself up with silly little creatures to make the children happy.

    Anyway...Which do you like better?

P.S. I like pickles and sunshine.

Cool This might hurt a bit...

I happen to prefer Capn' Jean Luc Picard....maybe because he reminds me of Spocks' father, or the accent...which we all know makes anyone way cooler.
But, Capn' Kirk has the pause..he..sure...can...deliver...a...line well.

Kirk: " KKHAAAAAAAN, What have you done? "
Khan" I have relined your captains chair with handmade cordova leather"

Probaly got the cordova wrong but still funny to me.

12 hours of Star Wars to watch.
More hours of Star Trek than I can count.

Star Trek wins because it feeds my hunger better than SW.

Hard to beat Light Sabers and Jedi. But just not enough of it for my cravings.

They are very different animals. Lucas is good, but he's one man, trying to do too much. And made some decisions that don't please everyone. But he made great entertainment for the whole family. A wise decision IMO. And it helps us old geeks get to go see a favorite movie with the whole family in tow.

ST had an army of writers/developers. And while each one wasn't great, there are tons of great stories out there.

"I've got a bad feeling about this" thread

I really enjoy both, but Episode IV and V > everything else.

We may not like what Lucas did to the Star Wars franchise, but is has translated to younger generations much better than Star Trek.

It's hard for me not to have a soft spot for Star Wars, as it was the first movie I ever remember seeing in the movie theater at age four. It was so, so huge when I was a kid. Halloween costumes, toy inflatable lightsabers, trading cards, and a digital watch (they were relatively new back then!) with the droids on it all passed through our household.

Then Empire Strikes Back kicked it up another notch. Hard to forget how Yoda appeared in our little weekly science workbooks (amazing looking back at how they brought ads into the classroom). Order three books through the Scholastic book club and get a free Yoda poster! I think it was in Newsweek that I remember reading a huge article before Empire's release featuring the worst-kept secret in Hollywood ("Luke...") I was seven now so I can remember it much more clearly, the theater was jammed full.

During these formative years, Star Trek was barely a side show. I grew to appreciate it as well, but... yeah.

No way. When Picard got assimilated, and destroyed all of those starfleet ships. That was epic, or, epicard.

I don't think any other human has been un-assimilated.

Also that episode where he plays the ressikan flute at the end, after living an entire life on a dead planet, one of my favorite.

So much internal conflict... May The Force Live Long And Prosper.

This kind of discussion reminds me of the age old question... "Who would win in a fight - Superman or Mighty Mouse"

Answer: Superman... Mighty Mouse isn't even real!!!

While not exactly cannon - I prefer this version of Star Trek.

And I assume by Star Wars you mean the only real trilogy, and not those ramblings of a senile old man seemingly hell bent on ruining all the good things he'd created in his youth...
