Default Feat Overlap on Multi-class Build

Please suffer though this newbish question as I am not sure exactly what happens at this point, but allow me to explain my situation.

I have built a fighter, TWF, to 12th level, where I am now at my swapping point of adding in Ranger for the next 6 levels, my question is: When I make 2nd level as a Ranger, and get the granted feat of Two Weapon Fighting, what happens?

Since I already have TWF, do I get to pick a new feat to replace it, or would I still need to talk to Fred to swap out of my extra TWF feat for something more helpful?

Once you get Ranger 2 you will get the TWF Feat from the Ranger (you won't be able to reselect automatically). You can, however, talk to comrade Fred in house J and swap the old TWF feat for a new one (and you will still retain the new TWF feat from the Ranger 2).

    I was afraid of that.

Important to stress, talk to Fred before you take your ranger levels otherwise you will lose a feat.

Actually, it's worse than that, since you presumably have ITWF & GTWF, yes? If so, you won't be able to swap out your initial TWF because it's a pre-req for the next two. So you would have to swap out ITWF & GTWF first, then swap out TWF, just to get TWF "free" from ranger 2. But then you wouldn't be allowed to swap ITWF & GTWF back in, because you no longer met the pre-reqs before lvl 14.

In short, either your ranger TWF would go to waste or you would pay for the privilege of giving up two of your TWF feats.

Not to rub salt in the wound, but what made you decide at this late date to add in ranger?

Default don't know if this was changed, but..

If you took any of the TWF feats as a bonus feat, Fred wasn't able to change that out before Mod9... I haven't checked that since. If this is the case, you're pretty much stuck using a lesser heat of wood.
Overall, its best to take level 1 as a Ranger on this type of build to avoid some of this and you will have a lot more skill points to spread around.

Probably looking at a Kensai Tempest build.

+1 AC, better saves, and additional skill points to start with.

The ranger/fighter build, Tempest I, Knesai II, allows me to gain +2 AC along with the haste while two weapon fighting by level 18, as opposed to the level 20 required for the fighter.

Thanks for the heads up. I was under the impression I would just have double feats and could swap them out after I leveled. But it makes sense however, so we don't triple up on Heroic durability or something if we mix classes.

I might just give up the TWF feat as that would make things much easier and it's not like fighters don't get a boat load of feats to play with anyway, and then Swap out a feat when Die Hard rolls around.
