    Default Earth Stance ?

believe someone said shortly after update 3 that somehow the earth stance line got nerfed and trying to get GM Earth wasnt worthwhile.

if this is the case how far along the path should one make sure to go? level 2 or 3?

    Thats news to me.

Last change I heard about for Earth Stance was the addition of a Natural Armor bonus to it.

'Strike of the Enduring 4' adds a flat 16 Damage to your strike, it also deals an additional 2d10 Acid damage on a crit. The flat damage increase is great if you can break the targets DR.

The other Strikes will on average be 21 Damage of the appropriate element, but they can be resisted, immune to, or just not helpful against your target.

Not to mention that the 16 damage is doubled on a critical as well (since it is just added to the normal physical damage). Earth strikes are very nice vs. stunned opponents. Earth-Earth-Earth will also give you a +1 crit multiplier finishing move (so a x3 instead of x2), so I generally use three earth strikes then finisher when I stun something.

Triple Earth strike gives +2 to your multiplier, taking it to x4. Fists of Iron raises the crit multiplier to x3, increasing it by +1. Also I would like to add that earth strike's act like smites and divine sacrifice of a twf paladin, i.e. 1 smite is going to count as 2, and 1 sacrifice is going to count as 2. So effectively it turns out being Earth II=16 damage(without crit, rolling a 1), Earth III=24 Damage(without crit, or rolling 1), Earth IV=32 damage(without crit,or rolling 1). And also its the same with the x3 Earth finisher as well, 1 finisher is going to count as two.

EDIT: I can feel a flame coming on so I wanted to refer to my "Most Crit" thread and you can see the 1 strike counting as 2 for the Storm IV strike and the Earth IV strike. I could not capture both hits on the 3x Earth finisher but there were two x2 crit hits there.
