    Default Wizard for party?

    Hey everyone,

Just wanted some input on what might be a good wizard build for a party. My friends and I play, but since I am not liking my ranger, I wanted to go wizard. Is there any decent build for a good Party Wizard?

Also, a lot of the builds I have search/looked for (I have spent a lot of time in google trying to find what I as looking for), I couldn't see any spells in the actual builds? Is this because you can switch out spells in and out?

Another question I had was: What are some general tips/tricks I should be aware of when wizarding? I saw that higher Con was recommended for the new wizard, anything else?

    Any tips would be awesome

Build a good wizard and it will be a good wizard for a party.
In my opinion, the spell selection is what will make you more "party friendly".

That means NOT spamming firewall at every mob you come across or dropping a nuke spell slot for a party buff (blur, heroism, haste, bulls strength, etc....always appreciated as much as a lightning bolt.

I LOVE warforged wizards, but if you are really looking for a good party wiz, you might be able to sacrifice that self sufficiency to help the healer a bit.

Other than that, learn to manage spell points and aggro.....everything else is easy and a whole lot of fun. Wizards are easy to make. Max INT and put some points into Con. If you have 32 point builds, put a couple into STR so you can finish off mostly dead mobs without blowing sp on them or contribute a bit if you are out of SP.

For a little coin and some planning, wizards can learn every spell that is available to them, and can swap spells around every time they rest.

Learn to conserve your SP early on. Remember that while you have the power to decimate most enemies, that isn't your job most of the time: you just don't have the SP to rape every encounter.

Mobility is your friend; make sure you keep moving, keep the hardier members of your group between you and the monsters, learn to jump-cast, learn to kite.

Awesome! I love kiting! It's one of my most favorite things to do in MMO's, lol. So basically, just sort of have buff spells ready, help the healer, and don't worry about maxing out nuke damage since I will be support/utility?

Another thing: I am buying spells from people in cities right? Then working out what I need and stuff at shrines? Do you normally run out of spells? How does that work?

If all of these are answered some where already, I would be more than happy to look at a link. I am pretty excited about this, lol.

If you have the money, it's nice to buy the easily accessible scrolls and inscribe them. That way, when you are granted spells at level ups, you can take some of the rarer spells and such (or spells you missed the scrolls for, etc). Note that you can also inscribe spells that are a higher level then you can cast and they will appear in your spellbook when you are the appropriate level.

If you know the quest, you probably know what spells to take. So you can outfit your Wiz accordingly at a tavern before heading in. If you don't know what to expect, or complications arise, use the Shrines through out the quest to respec.

The only way you "run out of spells" is to use up all your SP. Once you inscribe a spell, your Wiz won't ever "forget" it. Sephiroth's suggestion to learn to conserve SP means learning when each spell is most useful. For example, you can sometimes save everyone a lot of pain if you take out a troublesome caster with one of your spells. Melee's don't get hurt charging the caster and the healer doesn't have to waste SP fixing them up. Sometimes it's better to cast some sort of CC, then let the melee's handle things.

In short, if you're slinging your damage spells at every mob you see, you're going to be a useless sack of lard for a good deal of the quest. Learning how your SP is best spent is an important part of learning to play the Wiz.

This forum and the "Character Builds" forum below it are full of Wiz builds for you to choose.

Probably because the spells are dependent on what quest you are running. For the lower levels 1 - 10 you can't go wrong with scorching ray. There are no saves against it. It gets stronger as you maximize and empower it and you get more rays as you level up.

As other people will tell you, the WF is really a good choice because of immunities. Max out your INT and CON and put some into STR so you will not be burdened. Always keep moving, jump, etc.. At level 1 take, Nightshield, Shield or Mage Armor, to protect yourself so the clerics don't have to heal you alot. Better yet, don't run to the front and battle. Hang back and use buffs and CC to help your party (HASTE, HASTE, HASTE, blur, and resists and you will be loved by your party). Manage your SP so you can cast that "killer" offensive spell when you get to the end boss.

    Any tips would be awesome
