A question about LR+1

I hope this hasn't been asked before; I searched and didn't find it, but when using a LR+1, can you change your lvl 1 class, or just subsequent ones? I ask because I have a lvl 7 warchanter that i was going to keep pure, but have decided that he would be better served with a cpl of rogue lvls mixed in. So now I am thinking 18Bard/2 rogue.(I want to keep 18 Bard just incase they ever get arround to finishing the Warchanter line) I would like to know if I use a LR+1 if I can take my first lvl as rogue instead of Bard for the extra points. If not, I'll probably just reroll him. Thanx in advance for any help.
