    Default Gameplay issues, help!

These are some very weird things and can kill me quite fast:

    1) I jump on a group of enemies and cast an AoE spell like Acid Blast and... no damage! Nothing! Its like I've never casted except I lost sp (and the enemies look at me like "fresh meat!"). Is this a bug or something I'm doing wrong?

    2) I run up to the enemy, I'm right in front of it and cast... "You are not facing X" or was it "You must be facing X"... Nobody moves and I cast it again and the spell goes off normally. ?!?!?!? <insert dumbfolded face here> (is there a list of smileys around?)

    And the strange:

    3) I'm running after the mob, pratically glued to its back and attacking but no hits, not even a die roll? It seems I can only hit it if I run alongside it. Bug? By design?

    EDIT:
3.b) I'm hitting a troll with -Str weapon and it must have been like -30 Str already and the troll still hits me for some damage... Is there a limit of how much a -str weapon can actually damage or what, b/c I really dont understand how that could happen (wilderness area of GH in the example).

    And the useful:

    4) Is there a way to tell if I'm gonna hit with a spell or miss due to range or its just practice?

    Thx.

    1) This may be related to any immunities those creatures may have. If a spell such as Acid Splash is not affecting them then try another AoE spell and see if you get better results. Just remember that when I use the term "immunities" that it includes Evasion so try a spell that doesn't have a reflex save.

    2) This is a known targeting issue that has yet to be resolved. You will find times when your avatar seems perfectly poised to cast something but you get that error message anyways. I have personally had it happen when trying to cast on monsters and allies alike. It also happens with some interactables like portals, doors, and levers. Sometimes you just have to move into a better position to allow the game to work.

    3) This is probably due to latency/lag. What is happening is that your avatar appears to be somewhere in relation to a monster but because you are both moving and it takes a small amount of time for the game to register your action (i.e. swinging a weapon) the attack goes of and the game no longer registers the target as being in range. The only remedy I know of for this issue is to used a ranged attack/spell or get ahead of the target.

3b) Many monsters, especially in Gianthold, have a huge amount of strength. You will know when you have done enough stat damage to bring it to zero as the target will become stunned for a short period of time and all hits will register as critical hits. You must also keep in mind that stat damaging effects from Weakening, Wounding, and Maladroit all have to register damage in order for them to work. That means you will have to overcome any damage reduction (from spells, feats, or inherant immunities) before the stat damage effects will work. This does not apply, however, if you are using weapons with the complimentary effects of Enfeebling, Puncturing, or Bone Breaking. In those cases you just need to register a critical hit with the weapon for the stat damage effect to work.

    4) Knowing the range limit of a spell just takes practice. But once you master the range for one spell you can apply it to the rest. As a rough guideline you can look at the various mass buff spells such as Haste, Rage, Mass Spell Resistance. Those spells have a circular area of effect with a radius of 10 feet. Just extrapolate from that to determine how close you need to be with other spells that also have limited ranges.

    Happy hunting,

I should have clarified further. Its not like it never works, but every now and then the animation goes off and nothing happens: no die rolls, no msgs, nothing. This issue have appeared everywhere, in Korthos vs Sahuagin, Water Works vs Kobolds, Gwylans vs Trolls, etc. I even started targetting the ground or wall nearby as it seems to trigger the spell normally. Quite odd.

    Awww!

Sounds likely as my latency is in the 50~130ms range.

I was doing damage, albeit small. With a wind stanced finesse halfling monk w/ ITWF I get TONS of attacks/round and watched closely the -STR msgs. Seems freaky to very rarely be stunning them like that and getting hit for a decent amount of damage even after some time draining their str. Thx for clarifying this up.

Default Wondering if anyone else has experienced my issue

I have found that significant latency can occur if you are running with hirelings. This is to the point that you can swing and hit nothing. You can run away from the fight but you are still there fighting. A very strange experience.
