    Default Pure Rogue

    Hey guys,
I have been pouring through various thread on this site trying to find some guidance. I am looking to play a rogue type character and wanted to play in stealth mode. The vision I have for this character is to be played mainly sneaking about, burst DPS, stick and move picking locks etc. I want to sit and wait for the right moment to run down the hall timing paths. I want to basically use finesse to get through instances VS force. Is this possible? Can I make the cat burglar type of rogue? Would this be viable for soloing through dungeons? I realize due to the versatility of this game there will be content I will just be out of luck on for soloability, but I would like to get as close to this goal as possible.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

    X

Unless you plan to solo, stealth has very limited use in this game. (and since thats your goal it might be possible)

    Check out this dude: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=127707

BTW, you dont need stealth to get Sneak Attacks, if a monster isnt attacking you thats enough. (but you might know this already)

Rogues are great damage dealers against monsters that aren't immune to crits, just be sure to not use Con as a dump stat, and manage aggro to not get attacked so much (when in a group).

It gets harder to solo quests later on, but with UMD self-healing you might manage to get farther than others

Theres quite a bit of shennanigans you can pull of with just scroll casting too, making a summon then using diplomacy to hide is an idea

Bring a cleric hireling with offensive power and you don't even need UMD. The lvl 12 one is great. Blade barrier, heal, and raise dead plus he likes to jump in fights and get agro (unfortunately this raises the chance of the two of us wiping, so I have to be careful managing him)

Thanks guys, I will check in to it. I know there are many ways to play the game I was just wanting to try a sneaky methodical thief in the night approach. I guess I could roll a more group friendly alter ego for when I want to go in sword blazing screaming like a banshee, but for now, I will try this for a bit.

    thanks

There are a few wonky game mechanics, that make stealth pretty worthless when you tend to need it most. Like bosses heading straight for you once you trigger their radius, regardless of what state of stealth/hidden you were in.

The way that the developers designed their triggers and event trips is pretty stealth unfriendly in a lot of content, shame really.

There are a few people that have done some pretty cool things with stealth toons, I'll see if I can find a link.

I appreciate it. I seen the shadow mage option, but I dont want to be a nuker. I am still pouring over the boards soaking up the intel from experienced players. I dont have a lot of time to play so I would like to get a template worked out so I can grow in to it rather than trial and error.

It wasnt about being a Nuker, it was more about to show what you can do with stealth

Oh make no mistake, I understand the point of his video. And I do apprecaite the heads up. That was exactly what I was looking for in terms of game play. It appears what he was after is exactly what Ia m after. He just did it with a wizard and I want to do it with a Rogue. He even mentions you can do that same play style with a few different classes.

I went in to create a Rogue and there are a few options to go with and from reading various other posts, apparently there is a big deal to how you do stat distro at creation and what race you choose. what feats you go with and stuff. So, what I am basically looking for is a template to follow or a guide that will lead me to a rogue that will enable me to have that play style.

thanks gain for all your input

It's ridiculous how many mobs can sense a well hidden rogue with their skills/items maxed out and enhancements. The most annoying is beholders. Creatures that can 'see invisible" are suppose to be able to see you if you have the invisible spell but are not supposed to be able to see things that are just hard to see "rogues sneaking" but they'll see you anyway. In my experience, if it can "see invisible", it will see you sneaking even though it's not supposed to.
