Type of weapon does not matter. I made a dagger for carrying capacity purposes on one sorc (carries too much gear) and a bastard sword for another sorc (just cause i had never seen a GS basty at the time).
    sravana, kirtana, smarana, dasya, atma-nivedana

Yea I also went for dagger since my sorc started 8 str and can suffer burden issues.

Any 1 hander will do tho, long as you have the strength to carry it.

However.. If you happen to run some Towers of Despairs and get lucky enough to get a ring with ex cha +1, upgrade it for the +2 as well, and you have a better overall item ,freeing up your hands slots for superior caster weapons such as:

Abbot Staff: Greater Necromancy, Greater Enchantment, Spell pen 8, -10% SP cost
    or
Dreamspitter: Greater enchantment, High chance of 1d3 neg lvls on a crit (use mass hold, and wack your enemies down for an extremely powerful combo)

But the Tower ring can be very difficult to aquire, so getting the shroud weapon in the mean time is a sound idea.
