Recently back into DDO after a year + hiatus. I now see Metallin weapons. What are the differences between Metalline and Adamantine. Don't they both just bypass any damage reduction the MOB might have? Thanks.

Agorth Brutalum: L20 TWF Dwarf Barbarian, Shinkura: L14 WF Sorceror (3rd life), Wisspering Willow: : L19 Rogue - assassin, Arisiana: L9 Pally (2nd life). Metalika: L20 Tempest Ranger Gurddy: Level 18 TWF Dward Barbarian It's all about fun, isn't it?
Certain metals....such as silver, byeshk, adamantine are needed to bypass a certain creature's Damage Reduction.
Metalline, or transmuting, substitutes for any of these metals.
Added a helpful link to show you what creatures have what Damage Reduction.

Adamantine only bypasses DR/ adamantine. Metalline bypasses ANY metal-type DR (silver, adamantine, cold iron, etc...).
Just as a background on this metalline is transmuting after it was nerfed.

Metalline:
- Is a weapon prefix, thus blocks a randomly generated weapon from containing other prefixes like Holy or Wounding.
- Is a +2 weapon modifier (Minimum Level +4) for most weapons, +5 weapon modifier (Minimum Level +10) for handwraps.
- Counts as the metals of Adamantine, Cold Iron, Byeskh, Silver, or Mithral for the purposes of bypassing Damage Reduction.
Adamantine:
- Is a weapon metal, thus it blocks other possible metal compositions (Steel, Silver, Flametouched Iron, etc.).
- Has no change to a weapon's minimum level.
- Counts as the metal of Adamantine for the purposes of bypassing Damage Reduction.
- Is generally rarer than Metalline.
- Gives the weapon +10 Hardness.
- Changes the weapon's coloration to a blackish color.

Adamantine does not simply bypass any damage reduction a mob might have. It will only overcome the DR of those mobs who have a DR which is specifically bypassed by the adamantine material. This usually restricted to constructs and sometimes is only part of what is required to get over their damage reduction. For example, a clay golem requires both adamantine and bludgeoning to overcome. Other mobs require different weapon materials and enchantments to bypass, such as silver + good for devils. Weapons made of adamantine do not have their min level raised due to the property of the metal.
The metalline enchantment prefix will magically infer all available metal properties to the weapon, but you still must meet all other DR bypassing requirements. A +1 metalline longsword will not bypass clay golem DR, although a +1 adamantine morningstar will.
Metalline is a magical enchantment and therefore requires a weapon's prefix and ups the min level on the weapon. Adamantine is a metal property and is added without using the weapon's prefix and without raising the min level to wield.
Yes, a Metalline Morningstar will bypass the Damage Reduction of a Clay Golem.Originally Posted by BitkaCK2
