Default How to Coin Farm on the Bogwater Half Pipe

My participation in the Risia Ice Games was late coming as I was sidetracked by other things (like RL... and figuring out the best route for the Traveler Egg Hunt Aura runs). That and I was under the assumption that getting the coins might require the TP permanent ice skates and/or high level skills and exceptional eye-hand coordination.

However, I found this was only partially true. (That is, this seems true for the ice jumps in Harbor). Once I got involved in a large coin farming raid party in House P (Bogwater Tavern), I discovered that it didn't have to be so impossibly difficult after all. Sure, it took a bit of explanation of how it's done and it does take some skill and practice. And buffs and an item of levitation really helps! But I found that I could get over 100 White coins and several Blue and Purple Coins after about two hours.

Lucky for me I had recently earned enough total favor to unlock the Drow race and I had started a really high DEX rogue toon with great Balance skills. (But I've heard being a Monk helps a lot.) And while I don't have a permanent Featherfall item, my toon was multiclassed into Wizard so I could recast Featherfall as often as I wanted.

Here's how the button-pushing method works on the half pipe in Bogwater Tavern:

    1) Note that this method requires the participation of at least 4 players and more is better. If you stand or slide on the ice half pipe or wait in line to get on, hopefully you will get invited to a raid party. If not, ask for an invite.

    2) There are three buttons on the ice ramp. Two or three buttons need to be pushed simultaneously by button pushers so the other players can be launched by a stream of air.

    3) Everyone else (who's not a button pusher) can stand on one of the two little runes at the bottom, waiting to be launched into the air. From experience, it has been found that being launched from the left rune gives a good chance at coins (including Purple), while the right rune does not usually net players any coins.

    4) It is strongly recommended that players either wear an item of permanent Featherfall or be able to cast it on themselves. If your toon falls from being launched into the air then it will most likely die on impact. (Fortunately, I haven't noticed any damage on equipment from such deaths.) Some of us also find Featherfall helps us aim for coins, but you might find otherwise.

    5) Button pushers are rewarded for each air launch (simultaneous button push) by a White Coin. These white coins can add up quickly. But they can't get any purple or blue coins this way.

    6) ...So it's only fair that the next person who gets a Purple Coin relieve one of those working the buttons. Usually, when someone gets Purple they relieve button #1 (leftmost button) and everyone else rotates clockwise, with player on button #3 being able to stand on runes to get launched for purple again. This also allows the Purple coins time to respawn.

    7) The speed and angle from being launched into the air seems mostly random. Sometimes you will get launched nearly straight up, which allows for a lot of maneuvering to aim for coins. Just repeatedly push the direction keys. Unfortunately, often you will get launched sideways and get carried far away horizontally, with little control of direction. In such a case fighting the strong air currents is futile.

    8) Button pushing takes a bit of practice. Note that it helps to press the R key to keep running. (Pressing up or down cancels the R-key auto-run.) Go to the left or right side of a button and then use the left and right keys to glide back and forth across it. Trying to go up and down or even changing direction on a button results in falling down a lot. Straight left and right glides are best, preferable by touching the bottom of the button.

    9) Having someone cast Heroism on the button pushers helps tremendously. With that buff, they don't fall down nearly so often and so air launches are much more frequent. There are a few other buffs that help a bit, too.

    10) My strategy is to land on the tall platform on the pillar to the left of the half pipe. Once there, I cast Featherfall again and glide down to grab the Purple. If I can land on this platform, I can get purple almost every time.

Finally, I've recently noticed a large raid party in Bogwater using what they describe as a "Teleport Method" to farm coins. I could not understand how that's supposed to work, however. But I was told it required a Greater Ring of Friendship and a Featherfall item. If someone could explain where to get a Greater Ring of Friendship and how to do this method, it would be appreciated...

    Comments? Suggestions?

The teleport bracelets are DDO store exclusive items I think.

+1. Good tips & great first post, will have to give that halfpipe another shot with a team later

The teleport method is very straightforward, especially after you've done one to two iterations. I was doing it with a PUG (might be easier with a guild group, but what isn't?) and the hardest part was trying to explain to new people that came in what they needed to do, when they needed to do it, and how to "pay."

First, you need someone to be at the top of the left side tower (not too hard to do, just get a boost from one of the jets, though it may take a few tries). A group, or preferably a raid, forms up with that person and he buys a greater bracelet of friendship (10 group summon charges for 75 TPs). Each person needs to be bound somewhere OTHER than Bogwater. Once the group is formed (everyone needs to have FF or you need some people willing to cast FF on those that don't have it), you TP them all up to the top of the tower. From there, you form up a single file line and each person jumps off, heading straight for the purple coin. I found that as soon as you see a person go through the purple coin, the next person can jump. If you're hesitant, there's no harm in waiting for the coin to reappear to make sure you have a good aim point.

After you get the coin, type in /death to get out of the zone and go back to your bind point. You need to leave the Bogwater zone and stay out of it for at least 30 seconds, or the coins take much longer to respawn. Once everyone has died and has been out for 30 sec, the TP'er summons them all back and the process starts again. We probably had more problems with people understanding that they needed to wait until they had been out of the zone for 30 seconds before accepting a summon than any other aspect.

I can see a guild group just working together to do this. I was doing it in a PUG and we did a "pay to play" setup. Someone would volunteer to buy a greater friendship bracelet and be the TP'er for that cycle. Everyone else would pay that individual 3 purple coins (there are 10 teleport charges so you pay 3 and keep 7). For those that were on their first cycle through and had no purple coins, they were expected to be able to pay by their 5th jump, or they'd get booted from the group. Doing it this way, the teleporter would get 33 purple coins per cycle (33 coins for 75 turbine points, essentially) and the other 11 people would get 7 coins at no cost to themselves.

The other slightly slow part is at the end of each 10 teleport cycle, we'd make sure that the group was filled back in, so invariably we were doing LFMs here and there. Just go to the Harbor and advertise as folks would usually much rather get easy purples then stay frustrated with the ski jump. haha

The whole system is very much a win-win-win situation. The teleporter can get a substantial number of coins for their TPs (we had a "line" to be the teleporter as many folks wanted to do that). The jumpers got 7 coins at no cost to themselves, other than the time it took to do it (and it can go fast once everyone understands what to do). Turbine is getting TPs spent which is something they very much want to see happen. Everyone's happy.

    More in the works...

i had been farming all day long yesterday, and in the last hour i found a group that was using the bracers, in 30 min i had the icy burst kit easy and simple the bracers r needed, and they only hav 10 charges per item, but its worth it for the person who buys them. I can always make a 12 person group, as long u dont enter quests and 11 payin 3 coins each is great. But i think u need at least 20 purple to get a confortably recepie 5....

    Oh nice post btw
