    Post Interesting Article On Exploits

For those that don't follow The Escapist, thought you might like this recent article on exploits. Kind of interesting to see someone in the field state a few things that I have read on the forums here.

"Developers will never be able to eliminate this sort of creative misbehavior, but they can do more to minimize it. For one, they can start a dialogue with players that is more substantial and ongoing than simply patches and punishments. Developers should make their stance clear to players, especially during the vital period of time between an exploit's discovery and when the developers are able to fix it." - Murray Chu

A nice article... written from a player perspective idolizing an ideal world.

A singular company can not make that much of a difference. It would take an organizational effort, the likes of which I doubt we shall ever see.

I have to agree, but we can hope can't we?

At one time the devs kinda tried something like this and it did not go well. Community Kobold was the driving voice behind it if I remember correctly from the dev side.

I think you're missing the point of the article. It's not asking for a global revolution from video game developers, just throwing up an issue for discussion. You're sounding overly cynical, here; I don't see anything wrong with Turbine giving out a list of known exploits or problems to be fixed (hey, remember the whole issue about adding frost to an icy burst weapon?). It sucks when the rule for players is "if you think it might be an exploit, abuse it as much as possible, just in case they patch it".

All I really care about is the games I'm playing and the company's that develop them. It makes all the difference in the world to me when one game/company has an important feature that another game/company lacks that I think is important. Even more so when it's several features. So if I know that one company is very customer-oriented and has good communication, which includes identifying exploits and informing their customers rather than out-and-out banning them with no discussion (*cough*... WoW... *cough*), then maybe that swings my vote over to that company.

Who cares if every company does it? All I care about is the one I'm playing, so maybe young developers ought to be aware of that, for those who read The Escapist. And if some consumer sits there and reads the article, maybe he or she will bring it up on some forum discussion somewhere and turn it into a real issue for the games of today.

They probably stopped because they realized the effort was not worth the gain. KK was flooded by PMs.
