    Default Human barb18/rogue1/bard1

    Hi all,

this is my first try of a build, so please post comments and opinions about it. I m quite new in the game so dont be too harsh ^^
(and sorry for misspellings, i m no native english speaker).

Background of the idea was to have a barbarian which should be played mostly solo (have time problems in party play due to family issues) without good gear or enough gold to buy something special.

Big descission for me was going human or elf for either better healing possibility and protection for elements or taking elf dragonmarks to get displacement. Dont really know what would work better on the long term.
Keep in mind i dont want to have the greatest DPS possible or something else extreme, just wanted a character with which i would get along quite well solo.

Wanted at least 18 lvls barb for FB III, THF but decided against rogue 2 even with losing evasion in mind.
So i took 1 rogue for enabling the skills i wanted and was torn between ranger 1 for bowstrenght (could ve been usefull) and bard 1 for Bard Wand Mastery I.
Decided for bard because i thought that this, together with human improved recovery III and umd max, should work well to get me healed even without a cleric at hand.

To withstand damage i took some Barbarian Damage Reduction and Lesser Dragonmark feat of Sentinel to have a also a protection vs elements.

But these are only theoretical thoughts which look good for me on paper. Dont know if it really works out like i ve intended.
And please dont concentrate too much on feat progression (just took what i thought is needed and not really thinking what i need at what lvl) and skills. Took the first couple of skillpoints for playing around with some skills and later concentrated on getting 3 cross class skills high (umd, search and disable divice because i thought these would be mostly usefull for solo)

    Barb18/Rog2.

That Wand Mastery 1 from Bard will not do much. Evasion will do more, it will make you near immune vs elemental damage (traps and spell) so you don't even need healing.

Dragonmarks? No. You can just use potions, scrolls or wands for Prot from elements (use UMD). Plus you'll have evasion that will give you exelent prot vs elements.

The rest is as good as it gets, just go Barb18/Rogue2 and drop dragonmarks. Only Halflings get good dragonmarks, others are waste.

One small note: Barbarians main trick is Rage. Very powerfull. But when you Rage, you can't use scrolls/wands. Thats why Barb is so-so for solo.

Thank you for your insights Kriogen!

Ok i understand that umd can easily replace the 2 Dragonmark feats. Just thought that being with little resources these potions and scrolls would perhaps get expansive for continual usage but to be honest i never looked at their price yet. 12 DR from elements per lvl looked just tempting^^

What i m not sure is if evasion is really worth more than 30% better healing. Problem would not only be damage from spells but having no notable AC i would probably get hit alot where evasion wouldnt help me at all. And as i have protection from elements one way or the other i m really not convinced evasion is worth the trade.

With rage i admit its a great problem to cant use anything but with focussing on extra rage use, i had in mind to have enough hp to take the damage, kill quick, abandon rage, heal and use it anew.
Like i allready said: theoretical view on things in mind.

Barbarian is not a cheap date. It has high maintanance costs when it comes to healing. It's a bit like ferrari, goes **** fast, but ain't cheap.

If you want cheap, you can't go Barb. If you want to lower healing costs, then you have to be able to cast cure/heal spell.

It's why people usually solo with Cleric/FvS/Wizard/Sorc or Bard.

If you replace Barb with Bard, then it would be much cheaper when it comes to healing. Allmost the same build, but Bard18/Rogue2. Not caster bard, warchanter type bard with just enough Cha to cast spells. You can't Rage, but you get big damage boost from Warchanters Song. You can also cast a nice selection of buffs and can cast cure spells.
