    Default Outdoor lag

I recently started experiencing lag in outdoor and public areas. It'll run fine for a few minutes but then starts running very slow. My computer and graphics card are more than sufficient to play the game. I had no issues until a couple of weeks ago and have no active threats on my PC. Is anyone else having the same problem?

    Since the day I joined.
Select "detect optimal functions" in your game settings (to go back to a default setting), and then go and pump up "draw object distance" as high as you can and still be comfortable with lag.
You'll still be able to see mobs from a distance, and the image quality won't be perfect, but you won't lag so badly. It still looks nice enough to me, but then again, I had Intellivision as a kid.

I totally hear you. Last time I went outside, the freeway was totally lagged!

Thanks Lazarus, but that didn't help. I was running on "low" graphics before. Detect Optimal Settings put me up to Very High. This only amplified the problem. Any other suggestions?

I can't think of anything else if the game thinks "very high" is your optimal setting. Perhaps it's your connection?
I think I've heard that many cable companies are not really channeling the speeds they purport to have access to, and are falsely advertising a high-speed connection when it's mediocre at best. Of course, I'm no techie, so I can't prove it.

There are a couple of sites that are pretty reliable for metering your cable connection..

both http://speedtest.net/ and http://www.dslreports.com/ have tools to quickly determine your upload and download speeds. If you're not getting the advertised speed, call your cable company and make them send out a technician. When I last moved, I wouldn't let the cable technician leave the house until I was getting the speed I was paying for; he ended up running fresh wire directly from the neighborhood junction box to my cable modem to get the speed I was paying for.

I don't think it's connection speed because my son can be playing with me in the same room on the laptop and be running just fine. Both computers are running wirelessly - the laptop runs fine the desktop doesn't.

The solution to my problem ended up being a graphics card issue. The GeForce 9100 integrated card that came with the computer was not sufficient enough to run DDO. I upgraded to the GeForce 9800 GT and no longer have any issues.
