    Question Question about Cleric/? Multiclass

I'm a complete newb when it comes to the multiclasses on DDO. I have a cleric that I am focusing as a melee cleric. I have a few questions, first, how exactly does multiclassing work? Does it matter what level I decide to pick a second class? (For example, I am a level 10 cleric and decide to get Paladin as my second class) Is the XP split between both classes once you multiclass?

I was thinking of a level 10/10 cleric/FvS or if that is a bad mix, maybe a 10/10 Cleric/Paladin since I already have higher fighter stats? Although I am very interested in the FvS.

Would either of those be wanted in raids at end-game? Before I pick a second class I want to make sure I'm doing a build thats actually worth it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry my post is so long. >.<

Basically I just want to know how leveling up multiclasses work, if it matters what level you decide to pick another class, if the XP is split once you do, and if either of those mixes I mentioned above are wanted in end-game. I dont mind making a new Cleric/? if I have to, as long as I know its for a good end-game build. =)

    Thanks!

    Plan.

Multiclassing works, if you have a plan before you even create a character.

This is a nice tool for planing your character: http://www.rjcyberware.com/DDO/

All your presented ideas are bad (10/10 clr/fvs or 10/10 Pal/Clr).

No, it doesn't matter. However, if you are planning to take levels in classes which provide a lot of skill points (e.g. rogue), it's usually advisable doing that at 1st level.

    Keep also in mind that:
    - some classes have alignment restrictions (e.g. monks need to be lawful, paladins lawful good, bards and barbarians any non-lawful);
    - multiclassed characters can have levels in 3 different classes.

No. Xp is not affected by multiclassing.

Tbh, they both look horrible .... and I'm a specialist in horrible builds.......
On Thelanis: Hallelujah (EK wraith) - Jerryrigged Juggernaut (Fiend Warlock) - Sepulchral (Druid) - Chopchopchop (Monk) - Alleyshadow (retired gimped monkcher). Formerly on Keeper : Misericordia (Thug) - Mumbo Jumbo (Battle Caster) - Infernal Can (WF Kinda Cleric) - Halleluyah (Melee Spellsinger).

Ahh thanks for the info guys, I'll do some research and probably make a new character to do a multiclass, once I figure out what class I will use =P.

Thanks again for the info! =)

See above post for most important points.

So. why are 10/10 class splits bad? The important question when multi-classing is to be aware of what you gain and what you lose.
In general, most classes get interesting stuff early (e.g. rogue, monk get evasion at lvl 2) or very late (casters get lvl 9 spells at lvl 17ish). So if you split 10/10 you don't get the highest level spells and lose out on many high-level abilities/enhancements. But those high level spells are the most important spells in the game.

Also: By mixing FvS and Cleric you do do not gain anything new, all you get is less high level spells.

I would also suggest reading through the Multiclasses and Character Build threads as well. There is just a wealth of information that a lot of vets put out there for new players, as well as some awesome threads on how to build your characters.

One pretty good, and famous, one that I loved I believe has been completely moved to the Wiki:
