    Default Updating your HOSTS file

    Step 1: Flush DNS

    Close DDO client
    Start-Run
    Type "cmd"
    Type "IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS"

    Step 2: Edit hosts file

Open your HOSTS file with notepad.
    Path is C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
    see screenshot for more detail
    Add the two entries below
    74.201.102.13 gls.ddo.com
    74.201.102.13 gls-auth.ddo.com

    Restart DDO client

Remember to remove those entries tomorrow! In case they ever move again, you'll end up right back where you are now.

Yeah, this one worked for me when other fixes didn't.

Is this something I'll have to go in and delete in the morning? Or is it OK to leave it as is?

    see my previous post.

A brief explanation why this works. I like to compare DNS to a phone book. Much like you look up someone's name to find a phone number, your computer uses DNS to lookup server names and find the "phone number" or address to connect to. When a server is moved like what happened today, the server gets a new address, but your computer is still using the old phone book.

Your computer will always look at the host file before looking to external DNS for the IP addresses of any servers listed there.

Tried but when asked to save says path does not exist. What am i missing?
There is no lag. Just because you had none before and can't play now doesn't mean the server move had anything to do with it.

I would remove it after the propogation is complete (24 hours usually)

    And glad it helped =)

Some spyware programs, such as SpyBot will set the host file to Read-Only, which means you cannot save over it. You will have to right click the file, click Properties, uncheck read-only, hit apply/ok, then save it.

You probably don't have admin rights on the account you are using to edit the file. Log off and log on as an admin rights account, or use the Runas command to run Notepad with an account that has admin rights.

This worked for me but I noted the file is marked as "Read Only". I had to de-select "Read Only" before modifying and saving the file.

Odd- could anyone tell me why I would not be able to save the 'hosts' file? (I'm admin, admin mode, have permissions set to me, I own the document, still can't save it).

    I'm in Vista. THX
