Question about Arcane Archer

When I created an arcane archer, I was under the impression that the imbue spells would work on not only arrows, but bolts and possibly thrown weapons as well (because the description does read 'any missiles that you fire' - so imagine my disappointment when my heavy repeater didn't get the imbue.. XD

Question is, why is Arcane Archer skills restricted to only bows? I figured crossbows and all would be a part of an archers arsenal? It seems silly to take Weapon Focus: Ranged Weapons only just to use one type of ranged weapon.

Because Heavy Repeater rate of fire is so superior to bow that the added effects from Arcane Archer are overpowered and they couldn't be bothered to come up with a more elegant solution than just restricting it to bows.
