Ok, to start off with, yes this is a group game, but there are times when I like to solo stuff.
So on to my question, how viable is a pure fighter (twf kensai) at doing solo runs through places like desert/GH/Orchard for loot runs?

You should be ok in sands with a cleric hireling. Not to sure about the others at your level. You are not out anything for trying.
Well, first off, you don't have self healing. So you're going to need to have either a lot of health pots (expensive), wands/scrolls (less expensive, but you have to have UMD, which you likely don't), or a hireling (relatively cheap, but you're in trouble if he/she dies). Past that... there are a few quests in the Orchard I wouldn't want to solo as a non-caster, and some both there and in Gianthold that require some good skills with a hireling, but otherwise it's certainly doable.
I do suggest grabbing a lot of utility pots... barkskin/shield of faith if your AC is useful, the resist 20's for Acid, Cold and Fire, and removal pots for anything you aren't immune to. Some fearsome armor may not be a terrible purchase either, to help keep everything from constantly beating on you. I've not used the latter much myself, but I've tried it out once or twice recently and it seemed to help.
OK, well then I'll stick to my cleric for those areas when I want to solo...lol
Thanks!
At level roughly, or at cap?
All 3 were very easy for my Dwarf TWF Fighter at cap, for loot runs. Even Desecrated Temple of Vol (forgot DW clicky for first fight and completed the rest with 10 neg levels). Basically the mobs only survive 2-3 hits in these areas.
Minimal (Sands) to moderate (Orchard) to a **** load (Devil Battlefield) of health pots.
500+ HP will see you through even most mob fights in the battlefield. Just 100 pots/20 mins is expensive.
Just use a cleric hireling and park him away from mobs, and call him to you when you need a heal.
Otherwise my 11/2 Fighter/Rogue Elf can solo Undead and Gnoll chests in the desert, using cure wands and blur scrolls.
Just a matter of time for most solo stuff, and cost of consumables unless you have a blue bar and torc/conc opp items.
EDIT: Planar Gird for GH clicky is almost essential, as is Deathward clicky from Tangleroot. Fear or hold or death effects are potent when soloing.
do you have any ac? That can make a difference in resources and ability to solo.
However, with normal and hard scaling, and the casual mode, you should be okay for many quests I would think
