I'm looking for a build that can solo, so I want to be ok at traps, able to self-heal, and deal damage. I'm interested in the mnk/rog/rng builds, so I thought I'd try one. I went with 6 monk/ 2 rog / 12 rng. It seemed not to be much of a benefit to go from rng 12 to rng 14, so I took this number of mnk levels for free feets and a second rogue level for skills. The dragonmarks give this build a lot of healing, and I tried to take advantage of the free feats from mnk and rng, but I'm still feat-starved. I would have loved to work in Stunning Blow and/or Improved Trip, but I couldn't do it while meeting the Tempest requirements and also the dragonmarks.

I do have a few specific things I wanted to ask about. I really don't think I can fit in a feat for Khopesh (and I want the monk goodies anyway), but how good are Kamas? They would allow me to dual-weild for Tempest while not missing out on monk abilities (wearing outfits and armored bracers). Then I'd use clubs or a quarterstaff for things that resist slashing.

I could get UMD and DD higher by giving up a few monk levels for rogue, but would that be a good idea? Otherwise, I could forget UMD and get DD higher by taking it more cross-class and dumping all the points from my later rogue levels into it.

Another general q, I've read some builds take neutral alignment to avoid alignment-specific damage. Just how common/severe is alignment dmg? I need lawful for monk, and good would allow me to use good weapons (assuming I can't get UMD up to 20). Would I be better off going good or neutral?

    Thanks

Kamas are low base damage, crit range & multiplier but they'd be the only weapons useable with this build if you wanted to benefit from both monk stances AND tempest (tempest doesnt work with wraps sadly), and unfortunately decent kamas tend to be expensive, however it has potential, particularly if you can get hold of a vorpal or 2.

Why monstrous humanoid for favoured enemy? Giant would probably be a better bet at level 8, since it'll be good against ogres & trolls too (therefore great at that level and later on as you get to gianthold).

Holy will also count for bypassing /good DR, and doesnt require an alignment check so that'll be less of a worry for you at lower levels while your UMD is low.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

dude i am in the middle of a similar build....then i realized i didnt need two rogue lvls XD....so now i think ima take monk to lvl 7 for the wholeness of body. this build kicks serious butt....just sayin. of course it has to be built right and have at least decent gear. right now i'm at 8 ranger/3 monk/1 rogue and he pwnes...everyone told me he would suck but he keeps up in kills with same lvl barbarians and stuff plus he can sorta self heal and pick all the traps/locks in same lvl quests.

I've spoken with three other individuals who have played with monk/ranger splits (2 of the 12 monk/8 ranger, 1 of the 6 monk/12 ranger/2 rogue), and all three of them were very dissatisfied with their endgame DPS. On all three accounts they were going to TR.

I've run the numbers myself, and they are sadly lack-luster. This kind of build attacks slower and for significantly less damage than you could if you went unarmed, and you don't do nearly enough sneak attack damage to offset that.

Kamas, as they stand, are one of the worst weapons in DDO (lowest base damage, worst critical); even on a monk, kama is the worst choice for damage -- even a great attack speed won't offset this. Sadly, the monk combination is one place where "tempest adds the best damage for the least amount of levels" mantra falls very short.

With all that said, you can achieve a pretty fun AC, and have the benefits that any other monster-related build is able to get. I would definitely suggest UMD and going neutral if you do decide to stick with this.

Honestly look at the 13 rogue 6 ranger 1 monk builds. Impaqts Lessa build is excellent. I have found 13/6/1s to be one of my favorite builds to play. Youll have great ac with the right gear, great dps, really good saves, and be able to hit traps.
Toons are in a constant state of flux. Khyber server.

So far it seems to me the most popular dual-wielding rogue / ranger / monk builds are: the Exploiter (ranger 18 / rogue 1 / monk 1) for Tempest III; and ranger 6 / rogue 13 / monk 1 (or rogue 12 / monk 2) who usually go Tempest I / Assassin II. Basically trying to either max out Tempest or do healthy amounts of sneak attacks. Less common is ranger 12 / rogue 7 / monk 1 (or rogue 6 / monk 2); I get the impression Assassin II > Tempest II. But it's rare to see them with more than a couple levels of monk, AFAICT.

The biggest problem with multiclassed monks is their higher-level monk abilities only work when centered, which severely limits your weapon choices; but kamas pretty much always suck, even just compared to other light weapons, while handwraps are less effective for multiclassed monks than pure monks (and Tempest doesn't seem to affect unarmed combat). That's why so many builds either just splash monk (for feats, WIS AC, and Evasion) or stay pure-ish. EDIT: or those staff-based builds you see.

18/1/1 has a bit more survivability due to being able to self heal from SP and higher hp, but the 13/6/1 has higher dps potential. Ac and saves are fairly even. They are the optimum level breaks for this tri class setup. And also happens to be the better multiclass builds.
