Mature players in general, I've seen some kids (Generally very mature for their age, while running with kid only guilds), But i'd have to say most people who play are late 20's early 30's

I have been in PUGS with several players who were still in the womb of their prison-bound, science teaching, homemaker mothers.
Oddly, enough 99% of the player bas are lft-handed pipe welders from Akron, Ohio. (1)
Curious, isn't it?
(1) For those whose diet is deficient in irony, this is not actually true.

I think there's alot of military vets and/or DAV's. Also, I've encountered more people than expected that have some sort of physical disability and cant work, so they play DDO to pass the time.
Bored IT people
Scratch that..just bored people..
I've run across a lot of military vets, web developers, programmers, and stay at home parents who are/were PnP fans.
Well, according to the forums, a lot of people that reply to state of the game posts are programmers who have more experience with rolling a game out than Turbine does.![]()

lets see... i play games on PC (& used to do PnP), read webcomics, watch progs like QI, mythbusters, dollhouse etc, listen to rock & metal... so in my case at least, pretty much a stereotypical geek![]()
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

Warning: You are entering a tangent.
Not to pick on Kralgnax (and maybe I'm wrong), but this strikes me more as something other than ironic (flippant, maybe?). Irony, as I understand it, involves either a word that is used so that it has a different meaning than normal or a series of events that have a different outcome than expected. "The safety rails she added to the loft caused her untimely death" or "if love is blind, why is lingerie so popular" are ironic. "Diet deficient in irony" is ironic--I guess all puns are ironic, now that I think about it. Irony, to me, involves some kind of twist of meaning or expectation.
Am I wrong? People refer to all kinds of things as ironic and I often wonder if I am not getting it or if the word is just overused.
Who plays this game? Thats easy. ME! And that's all that counts. =)
Seriously though. I think it comes down to a simple thing, what have most of these players played? If you ask around, most have problably played (or are playing) World of Warcraft; but they are getting tired of it. Inquire further, some of these players are old school Everquest players, who were old school Ultima Online players, who were old school Dungeons and Dragons PnP players. Heck, some are still playing DnD (case in point, me...on occasion)
Basically, the people that play DDO are old school players who've become jaded with the current MMO market and are waiting for their next "gem". For some, that may be the next Blizzard MMO. For others, the next Star Wars. In any case, they're tired of being let down by devlopers. At least Turbine is doing a fine job in keeping us interested.
