    Default Question about multi-classing.

Does taking one level of bard allow you to cast all arcane spells in light armor, or are only bard spells immune to the fail chance?

If not, what are the suggested multi-class combinations for wizard? It looks like there's no Mystic Theurge PrE, or in fact any of the multi-class prestige classes.

    1) Yes, but it is a bug and will be fixed eventually.

    2) The most common multiclass is the 18 Wiz/2 Rog, which grants the ability to disarm traps, use magical device and evasion (along with the insightful reflexes feat).

2a) There are no prestiges that require multiclassing.
edit: there are no prestiges that I know of...

I've seen 17 Wizard/2 Rogue/1 Fighter as well. Or more fighter than wizard. Point is, they can self buff, and beat stuff down with melee, disarm traps themselves, and cast firewall (or another damage spell) as needed. It also helps if you're Warforged.

    1) If it's a bug, is it an "exploit" or is it a legitimate tactic that's going to go away Real Soon Now (tm)?

    2) If it's not considered an exploit, would 17 wiz/ 2 rogue/ 1 bard be viable, or would it spread build points to thin? 17th will get the ability to cast level 9 spells. (if I'm reading the charts right anyway)

2a) It was common in PnP, I'm still learning not to confuse that with DDO.

    1) Exploit? Technically (IMO): yes. But if they really cared they'd fix it.

    2) I don't have a capped player, but it seems to me the small bonus to AC would not be worth the loss of a wizard level (or fighter).

The problem with that idea is that DDO is, unfortunately, quite a bit different from D&D. Turbine made some arbitrary decisions and have essentially made having any AC irrelevant for anyone who doesn't attempt to max it (that usually means getting above 80 while raid-buffed, and with epic content I'd say maybe 90-100). Wearing light armor on a wizard-rogue-bard is not going to get you there, so in a nutshell the difference between a wizard wearing robes and a wizard-bard wearing light armor is that the wizard-bard has one less wizard level (this is also why many melee classes wear robes, as they have a lower minimum level than heavy armor, lacking any extra enhancement bonuses to AC). A similar effect is seen for attack bonuses for any melee DPS class for the vast majority of content (non-melee dps and off-dps don't usually put level ups in strength and/or have a lower BAB, so they're a different story; Epic content is also notorious for really high AC and to-hit).

So, to be honest, splashing one level of bard for light armor is definitely not recommended.
