    Default Sorc or Wiz?

Why would anyone pick wizard instead of sorcerer? The slower casting is annoying and dangerous if you're in trouble. You get less spell points. There's no real need to change spells as long as you pick carefully. And waiting one more level for the next level of spells doesn't seem like a big issue.

So why do some people choose wizard?

More feats and spells to choose from. Generally higher DC's and spell pen.

    how I see it.

    Advantages of Sorc

    1. faster: fast casting and shorter cooldown timer
    2. more SP
    3. UMD self-healing

    Advantages of Wiz

    1. spell versatility: more spell slots, change swap spells, and get new spell one level earlier than sorc
    2. more skill points
    3. more feat
    4. insightful reflex
    5. better capstone and +1 DC
    6. better past life feat

    Versatility.
You can switch your spell selection to take on any challenge.
and personally, I'm so indecisive that couldn't go with the spell lock down that sorcerers have.

and now there is pale master, it helps a little.

and as for UMD self healing, if your a warforged that's not a problem

Five extra feats, and it's useful to change spells a lot more times you think...

Now, usually changing spells doesn't make that much of a difference, but there still is a difference (A wizard bringing in Banishment to Coal for example - not a big difference, but it DOES help)...

And there a few (very few, but they exist) quests where being able to swap spells at will makes a HUGE difference (Enter the Kobold for instance)...

Five extra feats is nothing to sneeze at either...

But sorcs definitely rock... I'd even say they are superior to wizards in most cases... but wizards have their advantages too... (I love having Enlarge when fighting beholders for example... a feat I doubt any sorcs have)...

They are fairly well-balanced... All wizards need is for Turbine to create a few more good niche spells so spell-swapping becomes more useful.

All I can say that as my first character it has been *really* useful to play a Wizard because I have had the opportunity to explore and play with many more spells than I would have had as a Sorcerer, methinks. And I am still discovering new spells or uses for spells! Sure, there are SP limitations, and there may only be a relatively few spells that I actually use in heavy rotation, and if I ever play a Sorcerer those spells would probably get priority, but all else being equal I like the variety provided by being a Wiz.

Beholders have an anti-magic effect... you can't cast spells if you're within a certain range of a beholder... Enlarge increases your casting range (spells cost 10 SP more), so you can easily kill beholders from outside their anti-magic sphere.

Enlarge also lets you cast on the bad guys before they can even see you... This can be useful in certain situations...

I don't use Enlarge often, but it is very useful sometimes... It's not NECESSARY for an awesome caster, but it is useful... And it's something that wizards can easily carry, while sorcs rarely do (because they have limited feats)

Wizards can cast level 9 spells while still having evasion and a wicked Reflex save.

Oh, and the free feats and skill points are nice, too

Also, more high level spell slots.
Level 6 : disintegrate, flesh to stone, greater heroism, reconstruct and chain lightning.
Level 9 : wail of the banshee, energy drain, summon monster 9, mass hold monster and meteor storm.

It's useful when you are walking into a quest you never did. No matter what is around the corner, you can kill it. No Oops, I should not have switched disintegrate out after I was done with the golem quests. Of course, you can just read the walkthroughs, but where is the fun in that?

Another one? Great multiclass combo with rogue. You can be both the caster and the trapsmith.

As is, I think the sorcerer has a slight lead over the wizard. But there are many reasons why one would choose wizard.
