Question What is my heavy pick good for?

So I made myself a fighter and mailed myself some money and went over to the weapon smith in Stormreach and bought enough weapons to make any level 1 fighter giggle uncontrollably with delight. And I've used every weapon except my heavy pick, and I have got to ask.

What are picks good for? I know you want slashing weapons for zombies and bludgeoning weapons for skeletons and stuff, but what kind of enemies would you want a piercing weapon for? What would I beat on that has damage-reduction against slashing and bludgeoning but not piercing?

P.S. Ask me how many weapons I have. I dare you.

true. If the OP wonders why it is because picks have a x4 crit multiplier.

this means that on a crit, where normally would do 11 damage you would do 44(11x4) damage.

also, my bank and mule toons are full of weapons and other stuff I don't wanna sell. (stupid packrat curse )

What a stupid ruling, we all know that D&D promotes satanism, not gangs.

They have a 4x critical multiplier, giving them superior damage when some condition has granted auto-crits on the enemy, particularly Stunning Blow or Puncturing.

    Default Thanks

Thanks for the answers now i know when to use my pick.

    Lets see, I got...
    A dwarven axe
    A warhammer
    A heavy pick
    A greataxe
    A maul
    2 greatclubs
    3 clubs
1 quarterstaff (I figure you cant have enough spares when dealing with oozes)
    50 throwing axes
    50 throwing hammers
    A crossbow
    A long bow
A heavy steel shield (if I hit people in the face with it it's a weapon)
A wooden tower shield (see above)
    And my fists

Now I figure that if I were in a PnP game I would be ready for anything at level 1. Maybe level 2 to.

P.S. Are there any spears or two handed piercing weapons in this game? Because if there are I want one.

Rahl's Might is effectively a spear...it LOOKS like a spear, and it does piercing damage (as well as slashing and blunt).

from my (admittedly simple) calculations a heavy pick should come pretty close in terms of dps to a kopesh in the hands of a kensai.

imo its closer with a berserker III using dual mintu picks . still the kopesh is slightly ahead

i don't know if the pick is closer to a kopesh in the hands of a kensai or a barb. i did the calculations for a kensai because i wanted to roll a pick kensai and wanted to check if i lose too much due to that. in the end i rolled the char (lvl 9 atm), the main problem i see atm is the lack of vorpals on picks, so for vorpalling i have to use some other weapon type.

btw one of the main reasons i got the idea to roll a pick kensai is that you almost never see someone using picks, i accept some effectivity loss for some uniqueness

well, back in the times of barbarian crit rage and stuff, double picks (mintu or deathnip) were pretty common (on keeper at least). biggest numbers even if kopesh was still ahead overall.

Blame Twyn for that hype :P

Notice that speccing for piercers on barbs back in those times had other benefits: WoPing and Banishing. While banishing is still there, it's only useful in a handful of quests. And we all know they nerfed WoPing.

yeah, they were, but they aren't anymore. with my falchion 2hf fighter (and later kensai) it was the same, just the other way around. nobody used those things and now they are really common.

but deathnip.... yeah, i hope i can get the tome pages some distant day
