XP confusion /Xp penalties

Here is my problem/confusion.

I have a 20th level character that runs the shroud. I get about 8-9k base for completion. (not that I care about XP) In the xp area it says that I get an xp penalty because this is the 3rd time I redo this quest. Well my character has run the shroud about 59 times?!

Then I have my level 19 character run the shroud. I get frustrated because I want to TR him but I get about 1K base and the xp says I've run about 9 times already...in reality I've run about 39 times. Then in part 5 we automatically get killed so my end xp is 0...maybe more if we get a few other bonuses along the way.

So here is my question. How can one character get about 9k when he ran way more times than the other character and this one gets maybe 1k for the same quest? Am I missing something? And why does it show a number for the times you have ran the quest when it doesn't even come close to the real number that it should be. Need insight on this!

Of those 59 times, are you counting completions or how many times you've been in the quest?

To me, it sounds like you run 1-4, maybe 1-5 and D-Door out. If you leave before the alter is hit, its not a completion, nor is it on a party wipe.

Other than that, I'm not sure.

It stops counting completions once you're capped. The same was true when the cap was less than 20.

Thx for the replies but I have never DDoor out. I understand maybe that it caps at level 20 and that I can no longer get xp penalties and that is why my level 20 gets more than 19 but that does not explain why my level 19 character that has completed 39 runs (never DD out) still gets xp and it says only redone 9 times. This number never changes. Any other ideas?

It stops counting completions once you're capped. The same was true when the cap was less than 20.

My best guess is you did a bunch of runs on your 19 when it was capped at 16. If you keep completing on your 19 and it stills say 9 completions, then you're bugged.

Oh ya. I forgot to mention that my level 19 toon is now level 20 and I still only get 1K compared to my other lvl 20 character...so I would believe the previous post but this proof would seem to suggest another issue? I know its not a problem because I no longer get xp but it makes me think that this is broken because when I was 19 it did not keep track of the true number of completions that I had and I know for a fact that my other lvl 20 characters and all my other lvl 20 toons have always gotten minimum 5k xp when lvl 19. Could this be a bug on just one of my toons?

It sounds like your problem is solved then.

When you /quest completions you get a counter of how many times you have completed a raid. This is seperate, and bears no weight on the xp you get.

When you open up the xp log it tells you how many times you have repeated a quest, this is seperate from when you type /quest completions.

The two are not interlinked whatsoever.

XP LOG

This will count completions until you reach the xp cap (doesnt matter what level the cap is, 12, 14, 16, or 20)

So when the cap was 16, if you start shrouding at lvl 13, and run it 9 times before you reach the XP cap, every time you step into the shroud after that your xp log will show you have repeated that adventure 9 times, while your /quest completions counter will continue to increase per completion.

Once the cap bumped to 20, your lvl 16 character now starts logging completions that effect xp again (ie the xp log). So now the number in your xp log should begin to rise again, until you hit another xp cap.


Chance are your alt that has 59 completions, but only logs 3 on the xp log, only completed the shroud 3 times when he was not capped.

Your other alt who shows 9 completions prolly had that many when not capped.


Now as your number of completions logged in the xp log increase (nothing to do with /quest completions) the xp per run starts dropping. More than likely this is why you are recieving 1k on one lvl 20 alt, and 5k on another. One alt has more completions logged in the xp log(not /quest completions) than the other.

The more times (after a point) you run a quest, the less zp you get per run (i'm guessing you know this but just to reiterate).

Your first lvl 20 toon got capped at a point where you would still have gotten 9k xp for the shroud so it stopped counting how many times you've done it and froze your xp meter there.

Your second toon had done more shrouds before cap than the first the first one so was down to only 1k xp per shroud so it froze it there before you were capped.

Maybe I'm mis-understanding, but it seem to me that he is saying he has run Shroud multiple times on his level 19 and after consecutive completions each one has said 9 completions on the XP Report. If that's the case, it sounds like a bug. It would be a bug to his benefit (because the XP would stop going down after completions) but a bug none-the-less.

More likely, I think he's mis-representing his problem and what has been expressed earlier is actually the case.
