Default Sneak Attack not working w/ Handwraps

    Ok --

I've tested this in a bunch of lowbie quests now:

Situation: I am solo and sneak up to a monster
Result: I do NOT get sneak attack damage on my opening attack when using handwraps. I do a little wussy one-armed punch and no sneak dice.
Control: To make sure I was sneaking properly (my sneak is maxed and I'm in harbor quests), I tested attacking w/ a qstaff and then I did get my sneak attack damage.

Not Tested: Sneak attack in a group (does sneak attack work at all w/ handwraps?)

    Anyone else seeing this issue?

The character I'm testing on is 3 monk / 1 rogue w/ the halfling sneak attack bonus damage.

    Cheers --

My Halfling Sneak Attack works fine when flanking, or after landing Unbalancing Strike. Can't recall trying to sneak up and land one initial sneak attack ever, so I dunno.

When you say your sneak is maxed, you mean both Hide and Move Silently are maxed?

I have a lvl 15 halfling pure monk (with sneak attack enhancements). Using handwraps when I attack something that is not targeting me, stunned or after using unbalancing strike I get my full sneak attack dmg. I have not tried sneaking up on monsters to test if attacks from sneaking are getting me my sneak attack dmg tho.

Yes -- Hide and Move Silent are both maxed.

I have been playing solo -- like I said -- so I haven't had a chance to see if I'm just bugged or if it works fine in a group.

This is only in reference to sneaking up to a mob (while solo in a quest) and hitting him before he knows I am there. With Qstaff I get sneak damage, with handwraps I do not.

    Cheers --

I noticed this on my rog/monk assassin. It kind of sucks . You also don't get the two attacks you would get if you had two weapons in your hands, which reduces your chances of assassinating something by half. My assassin uses two kamas when being sneaky and handwraps when bring the pain.

Try to come at the monster from behind. Make sure he is not auto-detecting you before you attack.

    what handwrap are you using?

i remember seeing something back in the days that said the prefix/suffix damage from weapons will grab initial aggro for sneak attacking making it not work o_O
try using a regular +1/2/3/4/5 handwrap and see?

I think he's talking about the Austin Powers-like 'karate chop!' attack you do out of a sneak attack. I don't remember sneak numbers coming up but i'm either stunning, quivering palming or finishing when i do that. I'll test tonight and reply what i find.

    Using the veteran starter handwraps.

I'm 100% sure the mobs do not see me coming. I have tested in quests where they are asleep.

If I repeat the same tactics w/ a qstaff I get sneak damage, but with handwraps I do not.

Again -- this is ONLY the first attack when sneaking up on something while solo. When grouped, sneak attacking works fine if someone else has the aggro.

Before coming at the monster from behind, try offering to buy it dinner first. This will greatly increase your to-hit rating from behind against tricky wom- er, monsters.
