    - animation is similar to cone of cold which i don't like. i dropped cone of cold. too slow. i carry otiluke's freezing sphere. dropped chain lightning for same reason.
    - there is probably no better dps mob evoker/crowd control spell at that level then prismatic spray. its pretty much all you need in high level content
    - sometimes it does nothing. that, i kind of have a problem with
    - its expensive as far as spell points. it think mine is 64
    - in PnP the target gets hit by seven rays plus possibly an additional, this is just one ray, possibly two. seems underpowered compared to the actual spell from PnP to me. seven rays is **** good. one or more of your saving throws you will miss. making it a **** good spell
    - prismatic ray, which i also have seems to be faster animation and have a longer range which i like, even if it is one target
    - when i compare it to what i gave up, waves of exhaustion, i find i miss waves in that, whatever you hit with it slows down like a turtle. that's **** good. they may not be turned to stone, feared, sent to another plane or blasted with damage, but they might as well be as slow as they move. waves of exhaustion also makes web amazing. like waves and web will get you by most mobs easily
    - prismatic spray doesn't do a whole lot vs raid bosses, waves does

those are my findings so far. i'll probably keep prismatic spray for another few weeks to keep playing with it, but i think i may drop it for waves and just keep prismatic ray
in pnp it works the same as in DDO (at least, in 3.5 dnd) you roll to determine which ray hits, and 8 is a double reroll discounting any more rolls of 8 (two rays). You may be thinking of prismatic sphere/wall which force saving throws against all effects.

The amplified damage you see comes from your items and enhancements. All the highest modificers are taken into account, including your capstone. If you only have fire/ice maxxed, it counts for lightning/acid in prismatic spray. If you only have superior combustion VII, it counts. If you're running with an inferno clickie up, it counts.

I did some backward calculations of exact numbers a while back, and it was very conclusive on the damage so I know I'm right on one thing, at level 20 acid does 80 fire does 100 and elec does 120. Somebody else said they reverse calculated it while leveling to find the 4,5,and 6 per level. I can check that now since I'm level 19.

oh, and since this thread came back to the front, I have a message for all you people saying "no cloudkill? what a noob!".......

Stop being cheap, go craft some Earth/Water weapons and use the cloudkill clickie. It does the same thing on raid bosses that the spell does, and doesnt occupy a spell slot.

aight chief thianks. that's funny u mentioned that about the cloudkill clickie. i'm doing the same for the Jump clickie so i can free up a 1st level spell slot. just carry a few jump belts

to me the 5th level slots are kind of subpar. i currently carry ball lightning (cause the casting animation is fast), cloudkill, dismissal and prismatic ray (also cause the animation is fast)

even if i had a 5th level spell slot i could not see myself picking up stoneskin or hold monster or break enchantment for that matter.

yeah, for some reason i had thought there weren't any BE scrolls, but I was mistaken. So I swapped BE for prismatic ray.

so asp, you have both prismatic spray AND prismatic ray now?

i really like prismatic ray. didn't think i would but it seems to have easier and better targeting issues and of course be faster animation to me.

i'm still on the fence about prismatic spray though.
