Default How big is update 3?

How big is the update 3 going to be? I have a 200 MB limit per day and if I exceed that I lose internet for 24-36 hrs.

With all the content they are adding I'd guess that it will be over 200Mb but that's just a guess.

Actually most updates are not that huge, since most of the real stuff goes on server side, so I would not expect it to be that large.

There are 4 quests, some of which might have some new textures to deal with, and come to think of it, a bunch of new texture files might get uploaded to the local client since they are "brightening" up some areas.

There will be the code for anything related to the Winter Games, I suspect and a few interfaces for the Resurection things.

Hard to say how much they worry about compacting downloads since most users are not that constrained these days.

I'm guessing it's going to be real close and I'll see you in 2-4 days.

If you have a buddy that plays you could probably have him update his DDO and then sneaker-net his whole program files\turbine folder

Why care?? Because I'd like to play. If it is more than my limit I'd rather not even try to update if it means I lose internet. That's why I asked.

My provider is HughesNet. Their cheapest package is more than what I paid for with cable internet... but where I live now I don't get cable or DSL so I have no choice.

    Thanks for all the answers..

The update (assuming what is on Lamannia is what is in the update) includes new "nightime" rendering for many zones, and new textures for some zones in Stormreach. Based on that, I would naively expect the download size to be "larger than typical".

I never played with it, but can you get the download manager to limit the rate it downloads?

Another option is if they immediately or soon after update the main download files on DDO.com, you could download an independent download file manager (like filezilla) and throttle the download to prevent it from hitting your limit. (assuming they work the way I remember them working when I had dial up in the 90's).

Or contact your provider and as for a temporary increase.

Wow, just checked out that provider, they really do suck, "fair access policy" indeed. There are times I really appreciate being in a city.

There isn't anything in the TDM that lets you limit the download size, just download speed.

You can not play the game without it automatically updating.

I suggest that while the game is updating that you keep a strict eye on your download limit and when it gets close to 200MB you simply turn off the game update panel and finish updating the next day. 1 day without game is better than 36 hours without internet.

Though it would be nice if Turbine actually let us know in the release notes on how large an update is.

Hughesnet, that's what I was figuring. Just start your update at 2am. You get unlimited bandwidth from 2am to 7am. It could be worse. I moved to rural Wisconsin and am now having to use Wild Blue. They are on a rolling 30 day fair use system so if I go over, it could be weeks before I get to go online again. The really sukky part is that the neighbors two doors down on one side have 12meg dsl and about 1/4 mile the other way has ATT dsl.

Playing with, at best, a 1.5 meg speed and a minimum 4 second delay is challenging to say the least.

What time is the update for you? The update is from 4AM to 10AM my time (Arizona). You may have to wait till the next morning, but I would use that 2 am to 7 am window if they are going to give it to you.

Wild Blue doesn't offer a "free time". No matter what time of day or night, it counts against us. Unfortunately, we have two accounts that have to be updated. That's why I have been thinking about changing over to Hughes.

On a side note: Do you guys get throttled back by Hughes? My speeds get cut in half every weekend.

    Don't update both computers.

Update one, then copy the entire DDO directory to a DVD/memory stick. Go to the second computer, shut down the TDM. Copy over the DDO directory. Restart the TDM and all should be good.

It's likely one of the largest updates in DDO history.

Not exactly allot of new content in it..

But it has litteral THOUSANDS of updated textures, and textures are very large files, a single one could be a much much larger file then say the layout for an entire dungeon.
I'd put it at 400mb minimum, and maybe over a GB.

It's possible you may not have to download those if you don't have the high-rez pack installed... But I doubt it, I believe the updated the low rez pack to match due to the huge changes in style, which would be smaller, but still fairly big.
