Is there any possibility we can get the ability to tag a friends account (with their permission of coarse) to automatically be able to see when they're online? Sure, some of them are in the same guild, but a lot of them are not, and many are rolling new toons, or TRing an old one. There are a bunch of people not in my guild that I always check and see what they are doing, if they have a lowbie in my new toon level range, etc.
I see a possible issue of not wanting to classify people by their account name. I don't want people to know my account name, then they're that much closer to getting into my account. We'd also need the ability to name them something. I know a lot of players by their real name, and those that I don't are stuck as 1 character name (even on their other toons.)
I have several ideas of how to implement something like this:
A new tab under the social panel, similar to the guild layout. You could even keep the Message of the Day spot there, to help coordination and just leaving random messages for one another. If it were possible, you could add another column of information for Server. This will let you see if they have active characters elsewhere and maybe spark a conversation about it (maybe they play in an RP group, or PD, or just wanted to start fresh.)
Perhaps a new chat function. A different color text that you can toggle to pop up on any chat window that will tell you "So and So has logged on to X Character on Ghallanda Server." You could even make it more interactive than a simple alert message by throwing in a "Click here to send them a tell!"
Or my last idea (and least favorite) is to automatically input their character names into my friends list, and keep it up-to-date automatically. There is no reason our guild tab knows when a character is deleted, but our friends lists do not. If my friend that approves of the request deletes a character I no longer need their name in my list. If they roll a new one, I'd want to be able to see it. The fact that they accepted the request means they don't mind my knowing they have a new lowbie. Like any other function, you would be able to disable this function at any time without notice from another player. Much like when someone invites you to a guild. You must accept the invitation to get in, but once inside you do not need any permission or notification to exit.
I'm ending my shift at work and didn't have time to sift threw a million forum pages, so forgive me if this topic has been brought up before (although I DO enjoy the creativity of the dead horse posters. :-)
