Default Weeping Handwraps...are these real or just a myth?

I've spent a lot of time recently trying to farm these apparently ultra-rare handwraps with zero luck. Now, I've never leveled a monk past 9, but this go around I'm having a lot more fun and getting a much better feel for the class. Of course I would have even more fun if I could round out my pitiful handwrap collection with something unique. Sonic handwraps? Sounds great. Too bad it is looking well-nigh impossible to actually score a pair.

I've read all the recent threads about monks and their lack of named wraps and the extreme rarity of the few that do exist, but are these things really that rare? I must've done this quest 30 times in the last two days with a couple of character and zip, nada, nilch. I'm starting to wonder if they even exist. I dread running Necro 2 for the Devouts if the rarity of named handwraps is this bad. I understand the new update is including some new named wraps, but I'm wondering now if they are going to be equally rare, requiring umpteen dozen grinds just for something different to hit things with.

I'm still gonna make a go at capping this monk, because the class is just too much fun to play. But it is pretty frustrating to be stuck with the same old wraps for level after level.

I can't say much about named wrap rarity, but if you are looking for deals on decent handwraps, check out the weapons broker in the Inspired Quarter, you can usually find good ones there cheap. I just got a +2 Force of Pure Good for like 60k gold there earlier.

I can't comment on the drop rate of the named wraps as I have never tried to farm them, but you're already at a level (assuming you are indeed 9th level) where you have a lot more flexibility just getting wraps off the broker.

The Weeping wraps aren't even that good (+2 with 1d6 sonic damage). Sure, the sonic damage is convenient in that it works on a great many creatures compared to something like fire, but it's honestly not worth the effort compared to just picking up something off one of the brokers in Deneith for a pittance.
You can even find Force handwraps with decent frequency now, which work more reliably than sonic on most things. I've seen a few with pretty low ML (around ML6 with 1% weighted on it, I'm sure 4 is possible for a plain +1 Force).

Yes, they exist. Unfortunately, they dropped for my fighter, and were a bound item.

I was MOST irritated as I had tried to mail them to my monk alt.

Bound to character, only bother farming for it on your monk, unless you can run 2+ accounts at once.

After 47 runs of Shadow crypts over the last month and a half (before and after I TR'd) I have never seen the Devout wraps......I know they exist because I always hear some group with 0 monks in it pulling like 3 of them..............yes I'm bitter.

I had them drop for me on Lammania during the EU Beta, so they do drop. One of the problems is that they bind to character as the above poster mentioned. While that means that if there is a Monk in the party on that run he will probably get them, it can cause frustration when they finally drop and there is no Monk. It's even worse if the player they drop for has a Monk alt.

I don't think that the wraps are so powerful that they have to bind to character. They are definitely good for the level, but by you will probably have something better by 8th or 10th level. There is a paucity of named handwraps to begin with and low level wraps in particular. And none of the other items from the Cerulean Hills quests bind that I've seen. At the very least, make them bound to account.

took me and my wife 8 runs lately to get the wraps for her monkey... its easiest to solo/duo the quest and ask guildies to join for looting the optional chest. so you don't have stupids that loot em when they drop even if they can't use em and never plan on true ressurrecting (yes, i have seen that happen more than once)...

on the bright side the 8 runs did gain us like 250k xp in like 5 hours. thats not too shabby for lvl 8/9 wiz/fvs

Go force wraps...not much immune to force

And the devout handwraps...the gf dropped a pair last night after 1 run <insert much swearing>...ok I'm not much of a monk lover (as in not my first choice of character to play) but I agree that forcing a twf class to have to behave like a thf class is unfair. All my melees can customise their sets, vorpal with a wounder, holy of pg with acid of parry etc etc...I feel for my fellow monkeys.

Are you getting all 12 gears, so that you get the optional chest at the end? That's where they drop. If so then you are just on an incredibly unlucky streak.

We pulled two sets before ransacking that chest the first time.

I have never seen these handwraps when I run my monks through there. On the other hand, I seem to see them about 75% of the time when I'm soloing there with some other class. I could never understand why they were bound to character as they are simply not that uber, more like interesting.

Took me several runs too. I'd just drop off the side, check that first island (you want Guldag, but you get some crappy Shaman alot), then just recall out and wait 5 minutes. Seemed quicker than completing the quest and running back to the quest-giver then back to the quest.

They dropped yesterday on our first run reincarnated. The FVS got them, and my Clonk walked off dejected.

Meh, I have enough luck with the force wraps I have and I'll be doing less and less melee as we level.

Actually this character is only level 5 - my 9th level monk wasn't built with enough Str, so it got scrapped. I'm much happier with this version.

The only real reason I was going for the Weeping wraps is a sense of completion. It isn't a matter of how good they are, but rather they are there, I'm a monk, and I'd like to have some named handwraps with a unique property. I already have plenty of good wraps sitting in the bank for levels 6 and 8 (well, maybe not plenty, but at least three halfway decent wraps), but I really want these suckers because I know they are there! The grind to get them is just frustrating and my luck with drops is horrible. In probably a hundred+ runs of Durk's, I've never scored a Muckbane either.

You need to roll up a Khopesh specced kensai to pull them. Then you can reincarnate as a monk. As an extra bonus you will have a +1 to your Stunning Fist DC thanks to the passive fighter past life feat.

I'd say that the Weeping Handwraps seem to be about a 4%-5% drop rate item from Guldag (been collecting them for True Reincarnation purposes). Of course, being Guldag is only there about half the time that makes it a bit more aggravating to try and obtain, but it only takes about 30-40 seconds each run (zone in, kill Guldag if he is there, recall to Cerulean Hills, use a hireling, dismiss hireling, enter a new instance of The Captives).

Thanks to a kind soul, I now have a much better collection of handwraps going. Sometimes this community surprises me with their generosity, despite the bad PuGs and idiots giving out bad advice left and right. I even got to 'repay' the favor by donating a set of armor I'd outgrown on my ranger. I didn't even care if the player was a vet rolling a new toon or a complete newbie to the game - it felt good to give after receiving a generous gift.

And the AH gods were treating me kindly today. While I didn't go totally broke, I did manage to score a couple of good deals after selling a Silver Flavery me Hymnal. My collection at level 6:

+1 Ghost Touch Handwraps of Construct Bane - odd combo, but it takes care of two enemy types at once.
+1 Holy Handwraps of Weighted 1% - a little costly, but it'll make Delera's so much easier.
+2 Shock Handwraps of Shatter - could care less about the +2 to Sunder, but it was a steal.
+1 True Law Handwraps of Bleeding - one of my gifts, works wonders on spiders and other random enemies.
+1 Ghost Touch Handwraps of Human Bane - another AH steal, takes care of two enemy types in one combo.
+1 Acid Handwraps - plain, but effective.
+1 Frost Handwraps of Shatter - another crappy Shatter, but something decent against low-level fire creatures.

And somebody had no idea what they were selling or simply didn't care - a Necklace of Contemplation at the low level jewelery vendor just outside the marketplace gates. Got this sucker for 100 plat and some change. They usually go for around 90,000-120,000k on the Ghallanda AH.

Topped it all off with a nice quick Splinterskull run and a set of Blindness Ward Goggles. Days like today are the reason I play this game. Now all I need to do is get a toon past 11 without rolling another alt....

it dropped for my monk, fortunately, running that captives quest in cerulean hills iirc. unfortunately, i don't know how to play monk, and might end up deleting that character eventually.. really sucks that it's bound to character, but like someone else said, it's not even all that good =/

I was similarly (un)lucky. I had them drop on the first run of a new character on that quest. Sadly, it was my wizard. No such luck with my Monk. I feel your pain.
