Could you be any less specific?

Seriously, pretty much all monks use unarmed, if not all or most of the time, then at least half. What are your priorities? Do you want a solo build, an end-game raiding build, or a comfortable all-around build? That will have a lot to do with whether you have more AC or DPS, special moves or tactics, etc.

Here are the general builds I recommend, feel free to modify as you see fit:

Do you plan to play the character up to level 20? If so, do you plan to run the high level quests at Elite and/or Epic difficulties?

Do you typically run in groups or play solo or both?

As Lyeman pointed out, the answers to these questions make a huge difference in how to put together a monk. If you don't know yet, then go for a high survivability/solo capable monk until you have experience with the monk class. This is the easiest to learn on, but expect to either reroll or Reincarnate to fix things if you decide you want to be able to do end game content on Elite or Epic.

You can't be really good at everything, so you need to choose between high survivability/good solo capabilities on one end and Elite/Epic High level raids on the other.

Since you are new to the monk, you will probably need to do a lot of experimenting to tailor your monk and your play style to work together. So, I'd recommend you go towards survivability/solo capability. Its a lot easier to try things out if you can solo a wide variety of content. You can still fit well and productively into a group or raid setting for a long time.

To me, survivability means a balanced Positive Path monk with a reasonable balance between DEX, CON, WIS, and STR. For a first shot at a monk, I would recommend that you go with Human or Halfling race. Lyeman's Halfling build above is a good starting point.

Some others will probably disagree, but I would also take the Rise of the Pheonix line of enhancements (I found this invaliable until late game, and then you can always reset your enhancements to free up the points if you want to).

You will also want to try out the stunning fist attack which is great all the way through mid game (if you wisdom is high enough to give you a good DC). A lot of end game mobs are immune to stunning fist, so it is worth a lot less at End Game, but it is fabulous right up until it suddenly stops working.

The problem with this design is that at end game you have trouble generating enough DPS per hit to break through the DR/Immunities of red named bosses. Until end game, this build is a blast. At end game you may feel a little gimped if you don't reincarnate.

You CAN easily make it to level 20 with this sort of build.

At that point if you feel gimped, you will have the experience you need in order to True/Lesser/Greater reincarnate to redesign your toon.

    Hope that helps.

    Stat distribution looks ok.

Feats: do not take oversized two weapon fighting. You'll never use it as a monk in the current version of the game. You could take toughness again. or maybe something else.

    Enhancements:
don't take ten thousand stars or void strike.

I would look into getting the 3rd tier of earth at least. the earth strikes are one of the best you can get.

I would take stunning fist before I took power attack; it will be more useful at lower levels.

Honestly, you can't get UMD high enough to matter, and diplo is of limited utility. I usually take balance, concentration, 10 ranks in jump, then the rest in spot (helps you see invisible enemies).

Ok so you guys gave a good survivability build can someone post a good end game build that will be able to have good dps for the raids that normally groups, or something inbetween the two?

Halfling for survivability, warforged for DPS, human, elf or dwarf for balanced.

Trick, you've helped me a ton in the past, and now I seek your help yet again.

Currently my monk is more of a survivability build, and I plan to cap out that way (Need to Lesser Reincarnate once the update comes out, though...spent some skill points the first couple levels in Intimidate and Diplo...those need to go away). However, I'm looking for a viable endgame Raid build I can work towards when I True Reincarnate. Care to help me out yet again?

I'm not far enough along to help with that, I'm grinding out my equipment now. So I have not had the opportunity yet to play with different builds in content.

I'm far enough along to feel the pain, but not far enough long to point provide viable advice on the solution.

I will say that once I have the equipment, I will be building for more hit points, so that I don't die before the clerics deel area of effect heals. And I will be building and equipping for more DPS.

Hopefully someone with more end game experience can do more than warn you about the issues...

You'll get a lot of mileage out of this Monk, you'll never do "supreme maximum damage". What this build offers you, is the ability to use your monk abilities with a higher success rate, while still providing enough DPS and utility that benefits the entire party. Be it with your party buffs, dropping CON with bleeding damage from both hands for -2 CON on succesful strikes, and being able to land your offensive finishers and special strikes, eagle claw and unbalancing strike. Will all help the entire party do their thing.

Play smart, and most importantly, have fun!

    Edit:

Attribute level up break down and skill break down I didn't include in the build I'll do it here.

+1 DEX at fourth, rest in to WIS.

At first level, put all skill points in to Concentration, Jump, and Tumble. Then put 3 points in to Balance instead of tumble, then the rest in to Tumble.

I don't want to start a new thread but I thought this question is relevant to this subject.

Why I don't see any (or much) discussion regarding Drow Monks?

They get bonus to Dex, Int and Wis. I would think that would make a decent monk build but I rarely see the word Drow and Monk on the same subject.

First, drow get bonuses to dex, int, and cha, not wis, and int and cha are not monk stats, so it is effectively a 28-point build.
