    Default Warforged Pet Peeve

I can't help it.. It really gets to me and I felt the need to share my angst with the world.

Warforged ARE NOT robots.. Everywhere I look, even amongst people who love and only play warforged... So my bot... Gotta love the Droid... etc...

Warforged are sentient Golems.. I as a Warforged have absolutely NO gears. I am actually far closer to an Elemental or perhaps more accurately a Treant. I might ask those same Elf loving supremacists who would never play a robot, which would they rather play, an Elf or a Treant, and would very likely get a much different response.

Furthermore House Cannith did NOT create me, I am Livewood, they perhaps molded my consciousness much as a parent might a child. But they did not give me Life.

I'm not sure why it upsets me so much, maybe it's because I have a friend who refuses to play them because he sees them as robots (and I know he's not alone there). Perhaps my fear is that he sees me as a robot when I play. I wouldn't want to play one if I thought they were robots either.. I mean who wants to be a robotic construct manufactured by a finite and far from perfect race? What does that say about my soul if there is such a thing in Ebberron.

It wouldn't upset me nearly so much if I played a Dwarf and they called me a midget, or a hobbit who was called a munchkin. Perhaps because I know regardless of what they call me, they would still see me as an equal if perhaps shorter bag of flesh. However with the Warforged.. Robot takes upon the connotation of something that perhaps is less than, whose sole purpose is the satisfaction of their betters who "created them".. I don't know perhaps I'm reading too much into this.. God help the world had I been born a minority in Real Life.

I hereby propose the creation of a Warforge appreciation month. Who's with me!?! At least give us Arbor day.

You have this part entirely wrong. While you are made of livewood, stone, and metal, those parts were assembled based on a design by House C and they then brought sentience to you when they animated you. WF are very much assembled.

I agree, they aren't robots, but you have it wrong too.

    But some WF are robots...

I thought they more... dumped a bunch of ingredients into an ancient machine they didn't fully understand and out popped some warforged. (Hey, sounds like Shroud crafting ) So they kept doing it to sell as cheap military.

You see.. This is precisely what I mean. It perhaps seems like a fairly unimportant distinction. But the difference between having animation and life turns out to be monumentally important if there is such a thing as a soul in Ebberron.

Your normal standard run of the mill Golem/Iron Defender is animated but most would not go so far as to call them alive. It wasn't until Aaron d'Cannith began incorporating Livewood into his experiments that the Warforged became truly alive.

This livewood I propose is the core of what it is to be a Warforged, without which we are merely golems. As to whether or not Livewood has sentience on it's own is perhaps another discussion.. Certainly I would say the formation of a warforged aids in the development of it's psyche, and makes it's sentience far more recognizeable to those who share similiar traits of sight, hearing, feeling... But I would not preclude a simple slab of livewood from having some form of sentience in it's own right.. That however I leave to House Cannith experimentation.

I proffer the following webpage to any interested in the initial creation of the warforged.
    http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20050627a

It is debatable that the true essence of what it is to be a sentient Warforged lies within the livewood, some might say it's magic itself, but I would disagree as I would consider the standard Stone Golem is equally magical.. What can I say, I'm passionate about Botanical equality.. :P Long live the trees.

Don't hang out with Karnathi citizens if you can't take the discrimination. If you would like to join our Warforged supremacy group, I'll put in a good word for you with the Lord of Blades.

What really needs to be done is find a way to develop AMP devices or Anti-Magical Pulse in the hopes of permanently shutting you down. Having fulfilled you purpose in winning the war your continuing existance is a threat to all life on Ebberron as shown by a (possible?) minority who have deemed all non constructs (fleshies) to be enemies and are determined to wipe us all out. Constructs are created for specific purposes. Your purpose is war hence the name Warforged.

Those Cannith fools were playing far beyond their depth and as fools often do did not think of putting an On/Off button on their creations or consider that giving a construct an alien intelligence allowed it to make decisions for itself. Decisions they would have no control over. Like so many foolish and dead mages too busy marvelling over new discoveries to think of future costs they pushed on heedlessly. Short lived races have such narrow vision, playing god with the mind of a newborn. There is now no way to take back the life given to these created immortals or to be sure that they understand or will accept the concept of peace.

sure a Warforged Appreciation Day sounds good. I'd appreciate it if you'd let me live and kill those Cannith guys 1st.
