Default So long and thanks for all the fish.

I've been a pretty hardcore player here for just short of four years, but it's time to move on, I think. The amount of grind that's necessary to get the last few pieces of gear I was after has grown more frustrating than I'm willing to tolerate in a pursuit that is ostensibly for fun.

I may change my mind and come back as a F2P Account, but at the moment, I've had it.

So long Mith, i'm right behind you - this will be my last VIP month and i just don't see myself playing the way i have been for much longer. I find myself having less fun in game and getting angry instead of enjoying myself. F2P is the wave of the future and it will probably be the only reason i stop back occasionally to say hello to a few people and maybe try out new content for a couple hours. I'd suggest that anybody who leaves does the same.

I don't have another MMO in mind atm (though Star Trek Online may be worth a try). As far as I'm concerned, this is the best of the games around right now, but the prospect of having to get all 23 Sovereign Runes in order to get the Enhancement I want, plus the lack of a Chattering Ring after 49 Titan runs and having to roll against five other players for Kilau's Band (none of whom were Tempest III Rangers) means those last three pieces of loot necessitates my needing to commit to the grind, indefinitely. After four years, my patience is at an end.

Just be glad you don't have a barbarian... I've had several parties where 1 or 0 people wanted the tempest ring, but I have yet to see a party where less than 5 people want the encrusted ring (which seems to never drop, to boot).

Sad tale: I once had the tempest ring drop for me. One dude in group wanted it. I assigned it to him just as someone was leaving group, which somehow caused it to go to someone else. That someone else was still in group and in the quest. He reassigned it to the dude... and the same thing happened to him. This time it went to someone not in the quest. The poor tempest ranger was left to sit at the chest and cry over the ring he could see but not touch.

I hear ya, though, Mith. The game is moving from "challenging and fun" to "easy and grindy". Turbine has lost sight of their original goal, which was what made this game so much different and better than the rest.

I hear you on those points. Theres a couple new mmos coming out soon that i may try.
Possibly fallen earth or star trek, maybe even get back into eve now that my pc is brand new again.
Its true all mmos are grindy but some are tired of the same grind. This is return #3 for me over these years and i never regret coming back, most recently was on a tour of aion. I really just wish the content had the flavor of the old mods, they just dont seem to for me. Blowing down the market tent in a live event and then opening subterrean was the last real "ddo" moment for me.
I like the idea of being able to play for free wothout ever having to permanently quit.
Anyway maybe look for the uss sarlona to say hello
Best wishes on further adventures man

I'd refused to roll against PrE's who were trying to get their rings, but that's apparently a standard few others are willing to hold themselves to.

This is why 20th rewards should be FULL list.

20 runs to get THE one item is more than enough of a grind

Especially whne you consider that there is always something else you will want

I've followed the same policy, and felt the same shame that so few others would share the standard.

The grind is getting horrible. I know that Shroud saved this game by giving people something to do, but I find myself losing all interest in playing characters much past Gainthold. Why? Cause if I have to grind out larges for one more tier 3 or runes for the armor, or anything else it will suck all the fun and joy out of this game for me. Grinding for gear that has become the standard is just not worth it to me.

Hate to see a long timer go, but perfectly understand why.

    Yep me hates the grind.

Shroud would be great if it wasn't pretty much required for high level play.

Maybe if they put in an alternate quest that was set up with the drops as well... or something new to the quest ... I mean killing Harry is fine but since its all about changing going on there ... make it change up or have an alternate "mode"

I mean the whole place is based on Shavarath trying to muscle in on Lamannia so make a jungle setting with a new set up goin on...

That would be nifty and maybe would at least relieve some of the stagnation in grinding ... a little

What they need to do is improve the end game grind. I saw no mention of Epic items or the like that you are seeking so my guess is you are not grinding for those items. All I see are raids or quests that you mention that are 5 months or so older which of course are less fun to play. A new grind is always better then the same old same old.

And that is just one reason you will be missed. I hope that maybe you just need a few days off and can make it back, but it always saddens me to see one of the old guard take some time off/leave. I hope ya have fun in whatever stumbles accross your path next. Good luck and take care.
