    Default Ranger Splash?

Considering splashing my pure OC cleric with Ranger: bonus feat, more sp, martial prof., boost to saves, favored enemy, bow strength (maybe)... Just wondering thoughts on that as a splash option.

But also does the Devotion enhancement stack with Cleric Life? Looks like it should.

you cant take ranger devotion when youve taken cleric devotion, so they cant stack

what are the stats of your build?
    whats his playstyle?
    what is he doing?

multiclassing just for the sake of multiclassing is always bad

I doubt that Pivo is merely multiclassing "for the sake of multiclassing", as the advantages of a ranger splash are thought out clearly outlined in the OP.

I recently rolled a dwarf cleric for fun, casual playing with real-life friends. I gave her a one-level ranger splash for some of the same reasons: I wanted to play with axes and other martial weapons (and perhaps pick up the dwarven axe enhancements to boost it), the +2 to reflex save, no loss of SP when compared to a fighter/barb splash, and a few useful enhancements (sprint boost is very nice when traveling around town or falling behind the group). I also have enough skill points (with ranger taken at first level and starting stats of 14/8/14/10/18/6) to max out concentration while getting decent ranks in balance and jump.

Still trying to decide on feats (Spell pen & greater spell pen plus enhancements & items for offensive casting? Would that even be effective, at least for most of the game, with the -1 to DC that comes with not being capped? Would I be better off taking MT/IMT instead? That combined with dwarven faith would give me plenty of mana to heal, buff & cast. Thinking out loud is fun.)

Don't know much about the game, having started in September, but I am having fun with this and my other characters, which is largely what it's about. =)

Cleric Life is not a "Devotion" enhancement, like Ranger Devotion, so it might actually stack...

    Human Cleric, currently lvl 4
    Stats: 12/10/14/10/18/10 (32pt)

I was hoping to gain some melee help during the early levels, and swap/remove later with lesser reincarn. In PUGs I am finding I save SPs if I just bash things myself rather than heal the low AC party members.

I was mostly considering pally, but ranger looks better.

You define yourself as an offensive Caster.... WHat in that list of benefits is actually a benefit to an Offensive Caster?

Bonus Feat? Um, there is no bonus feat..
More SP? Not realy, you LOSE level 20 Cleric Spell points but Gain an additional L1 WIsdom Bonus. It will end up being liek 20-30 spell points.
Martial Pro? What are you swinging a weapon at? You can use a TUrn attempt to grant yourself a Martial Pro if ya need it for backup.
Boost to saves? +2 Reflex, +1 Fort.... Is your reflex any good anyway? Is +1 FOrt gonna make a dif?
Favored enemy only applies to Melee.
You have to actually be able to hit things with a bow for Bow str to be worth anything

ANd as others have said, you cant stack the devotion enh.

Multiclassing just inst a good idea unless you PLAN for it. So many people destroy decent builds because they think they "Need to". You dont.

If your solution in the end is to throw $$$ at the problem to fix it, then do whatever you feel is necessary.

STR is low, Dex is low.

You can take a ENhancemnts to grant Longsword Proficency and in the level 4-9 ranger, a good Heavy mace or Morning star is still pretty effective andyour already proficient.

Impaqt, I have heard/read references to your cleric leveling approach that starts melee and changes over to oc. Can you point me to that? I am just finding it inefficient and resource draining to cast offensive spells and heals during early quests. I am attempting to contribute more to the group than just healing at this point in time.

I got a vaara on Sarlona (if you want to look her up) up to level 8/2 cleric ranger with many shot and a para longbow. She is fun.....and totally awefull. I mean a bottom 10% build. And she has all the good stuff.

She was going to be a wop longbow terror. Instead she is just Terrible!! LOL.

My Build index links most of my clerical builds.

My Main cleric for example is OC Focused, but has Khopesh Proficency and a High STR. Its not that I abandon melee, I just dont use it as often in the end game. But it does come in handy when I'm soloing.

I like my Cleric with a splash of Ranger but I dont plan on L20 builds. It fills the early holes a cleric has quite nicely and great lowbie clickies. If your after min and maxing L20 builds its of course not going to fit with the elite builds some feel they need.
