    Default Yes and no.

There are no gameplay bonuses (+HP> SP, stats, etc.) for being in a guild.

There are, however, significant gameplay advantages in playing regularly with the same people.

The main bonus of being in a guild is that you will become familiar with their playstyles from having played with them often. They will also help you to learn the game, get favor, grind for gear, etc. You will also develop friendships with your guildmates. Additionally, guilds tend to have a reputation among players based on success in raids, the skill level of their guildmates, the sociability of the guild players, etc.

My recommendation for picking a guild is to not immediately pick a guild. Play for a time, learn the game, find out who you like grouping with and who you do not. If you find a specific guild that you enjoy running with, then ask them if they are recruiting.

Some guilds are very exclusive in that they are populated by friends who have been playing together for years. If one of these guilds rejects you, do not sweat it. If you really like running with them, continue to seek them out for grouping and let them get to know you. Cultivate a friendship. After a few weeks of continuious play, ask them again if they are recruiting and you will probably be let in.

    Advantages:
    - playing with likeminded folks
    - becoming friends with those folks
    - learning the strengths / weaknesses of characters you run with often so you can group more effectively
    - it usually makes finding groups easier
    - not having to pug all the time (not to bash pugs cuz i like running with different folks but you never know what you'll get and sometimes yikes)
    - easily keeping track of who is online in your guild (versus the borked friends list or the Who panel)
    - trading gear. guilds tend to take care of each other this way.
    - being in a group of folks with a really cool name like "Gandalf's Psychotic Marauders" or "Hobbiton's Hawt Herculean Heroes" or something like that
