Default how does the kill count work?

Is it the person who does the most damage on a monster or the person who hits it last?

    Just curious

unfortunately hits it last, kill count is a very unreliable statistic.

The person who gets in the killing blow.

Kill count is nothing to be overly concerned with. It can, in a way, be a gauge of who's doing the most damage, but not exactly reliable. There are too many variables to factor in to simply take kill count at face value.

Or a char with a heavy repeater, I've seen some people wait until mobs have literally 5 hitpoints left, and fire a round of bolts at it. I'll never understand the fixation with the kill count.

When I tried a repeater build I saw the opposite...

Whack, whack, whack....sliver of life left....reload....someone else gets the kill.

Actually, that's easy: It's something that's easy to measure. Many of our less perspicacious fellow players focus on what's easy to measure, rather than what actually matters.

It's funny that you chose that word to describe players. Another meaning of the word means to have keen vision, which could imply that only perspicacious players worry about the kill count.

If it was measured as higher damage to a mob, the same people that wait for the final hit would attack a mob till they do more than 50% damage and move to the next without ever caring to finish it, so, that wont fix the problem either.

Speaking of comprehension... Did you read the post?

Meaning 1: Having keen mental perception and understanding.
Meaning 2: Archaic. having keen vision

Using meaning 1, I can say that "lesser" perspicacious people worry about it.

Using meaning 2, I can say that "only" perspicacious people worry about it, meaning they keep an eye on the kill count.

    *sigh*

It's quite reliable, as x approaches infinity.

Yeah, because those dual-wielding characters are often doing more damage than anyone.

    That's why it makes sense.

I thought keen mental perception meant that I only understand on a 19 or 20.
