    Question inquiring about exploits

How does one inquire whether a certain game behavior is an exploit? I see how to report behavior I suspect is an exploitable bug, but nothing regarding confirming whether it actually is.

You don't. It's one of the wonderful things about exploits, since a list is never printed of them it's possible to get in trouble for things no one realizes are exploits. If you're concerned about it your best bet is to just not do it.

Well, you could just ask, here on the forums or ingame, without giving enough detail on how to actually exploit it.
Or you just write the bug report and let the devs sort it out.

I really wouldn't suggest this. Mentioning it at all is against the CoC.

While I am sure there are some total innocents that get banned for exploits they were not aware of, most know exactly what thye are doing, and are aware that it is an exploit.

Guy I used to run with on occasion got banned once. Won't mention the exploit he was using, but people were running the dragon a lot back then. When he got banned he sent me a text saying he wouldn't be on, cause he got banned. Then he railed about how no one told him it was an exploit and it wasn't fair! I asked him what he did and he told me. I said I had no idea you could do that, why didn't you tell me. His reply? "We were keeping it on the down low, we didn't want to get banned."

So it was unfair for Turbine to ban him for using an exploit they didn't tell him was an exploit, that he didn't want to tell anyone about for fear of getting banned over an exploit.

    Really? Are you kidding me?

If it feels wrong, it probably is.

All that said, there is a thread somewhere on the forums where general guidlines are givien for what could be considered and exploit. it is very general but it may help some.

Really? I may not even ask if it is allowed to do something?
I mean, some things are obviously exploits, but other stuff, like rerunning certain parts of quest chains, I have no idea if it's bannable bug using or not.

Bingo. There was a big thread about this a while ago, one of the devs (Tolero?) said the best bet was if you were uncertain don't do it, but it was still against the rules to even ask.

It's absurd but meh, that's how it is.

In short: If it seems too good/easy to be true, then it probably is.

The Code of Conduct forbids publicly revealing exploits. Asking on the forums if X is an exploit violates that rule if the answer is "yes".

That's actually fairly common. It's a matter of game producers not wanting exploits to become common knowledge before they can be fixed. The fewer players that have to be banned, the less income they lose.

    1) The default Turbine test is that if you can bypass or complete an objective with no risk its an exploit. They do however seem to have exceptions to this.
    2) If in doubt, PM the exploit, with details to Tolero, and ask if the behavior is acceptable.
