Hunter of the Dead update?

Anyone know the status of updating this prestige? I grabbed it early on after reading they were going to update / enhance it and now I'm close to grabbing HotD 3 but being Dwarf have to pick up the ranged or longsword enhancement to qualify which really doesn't help me at all using shield and dwarven axe. Probably will lose patience and lesser reincarnate to KotC.

You can simply reset your enhancements, no need to reincarnate.

Why does it need an update?

It really is a pretty strong PrC as it is now - All weapons are ghost touch, you get a +6 bonus to saves vs. undead spells and effects, Healing amplification, negative energy resistance, extra turns which you can use to fuel your divine might addiction, the chance to disrupt undead on a 20 with any weapon (extra light damage if they make their save), neg level immunity, and you can expend turn undeads to cast greater restore. And although most people don't bother with it on paladins, you get bonuses to your turn undead attempts which are really useful if you decide to backtrack to low level quests for silver flame favor.

Yeah I don't bother turning undead, just destroy them. Brings me to another question, the + level to turn undead enhancement, does that also apply to + level for Divine Lights and Smite as well?

Hunter of the Dead is a pretty weak specialty as it is now, especially because KOTC is so much better for anyone who'd going to actually hunt some deads.

The best things HOTD has going for it is neg-immunity (Hunter of the Beholder) and some moderate healing amp. Compared to a bunch of extra damage die those are really low in significance.

Plus would like to get DMIV for brutality so need to bump up CHA pretty good...Greater Reincarnation is going to have to happen.

Knight of the Chalice also works against undead, so the saves issue is unimportant. Healing amp, iffy, but still not worth it when compared to the extra damage against stuff KotC (you need less healing if you don't take damage from the stuff you killed faster). Ghosttouch can be found on weapons, even at low levels (like from the Catacombs; named Longsword). And the bonus to Turning and disrupting Undead on a natural 20... If the best defense you've got for HotD is "if you decide to backtrack to low level quests for silver flame favor", then it's frankly not a strong PrE.

It would still be better to be KotC, since most of the end-game is Evil Outsiders anyway.

The most it would do make people take HotD at low levels, then respec their enhancements when they got to 12+.


And that's IF they fix it. It's been a known issue for months, and nothing's been done about it.

and let it be pointed out again, since a couple of ppl keep mentioning it.
you can reset your enhancements at a trainer every few days for a minimal ammount of plat, no need to lesser reincarnate over it.

HotD is great situationally but overall does not compare to the other 2, especially once you are 15+ (unless you plan to solo ghost of perdition until you get an icy, in which case oh by all means stay HotD! )

Pure speculation on my part, but I would go out on a limb and say they are going to have you go to the realm of the dead since the guy who teleports you to the devils plane asks you if that is one place you want to go. So, that will be high level undead content that it will be nice to have a HOTUD

Also, one thing to keep in mind is a Hunter for part's 2 and 3 of VON on Epic. Beholders will be a huge pain in the butt at that level. Send in the Paladin who is immune to level drain to get aggro.
