I think this would be a good idea.

I do know that there have been several guilds created entirely for kids, but after seeing the contents of some of the conversation amoungst those children in general spam, well....

Let's just say I don't think a lot of parents would really be on board for their younger children being part of such.

This idea would put adults in play, so a lot of that should be curbbed.

My oldest daughter in particular enjoys the game, but I won't just turn her loose here. Be nice to have a group she could belong to where I knew I wouldn't have to constantly moniter her play, and keep her out of parties for the most part. If the parents who play all pitch in, I think we could make an enjoyable experience for all involved.

Please keep us updated if you decide to persue this.

Turn her loose Bandy! Turn her loose!

Just don't trust her around cabbies.

And Tab and Tot should be OK for her to share her womanly dilemma's with as they are either just heading for, or coming from the closet!

To the OP, I do like this idea for many of the same reasons that Bandy spoke of. Since you would be playing as a family presumably, as parents you have better control of what your children would be exposed to, which is always a good idea no matter that they are doing online...

I wish you the best and hope it is successful for you!

Default Twin 3 yr old boys

I'm rolling up some barbarians for my two 3 yr old boys. I'm sure they'll be as much a destructive force in DDO as they are in the house.

I think it has been tried before with limited success. The problem is that you'd need at least one chaperon adult per group making sure things don't go out of hand. Most people (including those with children of their own) don't have the patience to deal with a bunch of rambunctious, energy-filled kids for more than quest or two. Not to mention that many of us use DDO as our entertainment time when the kids go to bed.

    Good luck tho.

    Godspeed.

Can't speak for 3 year olds, but my 5 year old loves to "play" on my lap. He says what he wants to do (mostly switching endlessly between weapons) and is learning to move around on his own.

I would join a family guild... even if it is, perhaps, a bit premature. It would be nice not to have to worry about what people say on the mic (not that we've really had any problems so far).

My 6 year old son loves talking to the other players. He especially likes talking to Nick, because of his accent, Kujo, because Daddy yells at him a lot and his Uncle Blah.

Side note, I was eating dinner one night and my wife asked if I still played DDO (we usually never discuss it), and I said yes. She was asking about Nick and the usual guys I play with. I mentioned Blah and she asked who it was....Andrew quickly replied, "oh mom, hes the mexican". Gotta love kids.

There's a HUGE cognitive and developmental leap from a 3yr old and a 5 yr old. A 3 yr old might be able to click on somethings that draws his/her attention plus randomly clicking on the keyboard. A 5yo, on the other hand, can follow simple directions, problem solving and even be able to read mono- or bisyllabic words and make sense of them. a 3yo would be MUCH, MUCH better served playing with wooden blocks/Lego/Lincoln Logs than by playing ANY video game, let alone DDO.

Well, as someone whose career once consisted of creating software for 3 year olds (and up), I have to disagree a little...

But you are right, for something like this the difference is huge.

On the other hand, my five year old is also better served by playing with legos... which he does with even greater joy than DDO. He does love the 20 minutes or so we spend playing before bed sometimes though.

My 5 year old loves to play, so I'm definately open to something like this. Maybe a coordinated time like Saturdays between X & Y and maybe an adult could sign up as shaparone for a quest or two.

At present I usually just let him jump my level 18 barb and turn him loose in one of the low level explorer areas, great fun for him since he can kill everything and not worry about getting killed himself.

Well, since I would be with my 5 year old, I would count as a chaperon I suppose. Might be fun for all of us who play together with our little ones to get together.

No such luck for me. My 5 year old is FAR too into having his own character. Probably started when we got him involved in PnP D&D because he went to bed too late for us to start once he went to sleep. I could probably turn him loose in Korthos island though...
