    Default permanent party

Hey everyone, I'm back at DDO as a VIP now that it seems like the game has some real life to it. I've been messing around with some low level toons and had an idea. It can get old to have a PUG every night made up of 3 barbarians, 2 rangers, and a bard, so here is my idea.

Is there anyone on this server that would be interested in forming a set, 6 man party to get together at a regular time 2-3 nights a week and play together for a couple hours? We could create a balanced party that is ready for whatever quests throw at us, and really work together from levels 1-20. We can create a mix of classes and races that would be diverse, effective, and a heck of a lot of fun. I'm not looking for expert players by any means, we can teach new players. However, VIP subscribers would be nice.

This game obviously relies on heavy teamwork and party makeup more than other MMO's and I just think that a set group of players who can become friends would be a great way to get the most out of the game from start to finish. have a good tank, rogue, healer, support character, etc... Heck, if we make it to a point where raids are an option we'll already have half a raid when we log on ! If you would like to try this out, respond to this thread and look for me in game. I'm usually on a bard named less claypuull. It would be cool to find a few of us, meet in game to discuss party makeup, and get started.

What you need to be to join

    - A halfway mature player who will share resources with the party and work for the team.

    - Someone who will make our scheduled nights 9 times out of 10 and not ditch every other week because you forgot to do you Philosophy 101 homework again. The group will be relying on you to show up and play your part. It will ruin the fun and convienence of a set group for everyone if you are not faithful to the time alotted.

    - Willing to choose a roll and stick to it for the good of the party.

    - Be a DDO player for the long haul. I understand lives change, but it would suck for the party to get to lv 10 and then have its cleric leave to play world of warcraft.

    - A VIP subscriber, or a F2P who is willing to buy/earn the points necessary to take part in the quests and leveling that other party members will be doing.

    You need not:

    - Have experience, we can teach you as we go along and progress.

    - Be a certain age. I'm 29 so adults would be cool, but if you're a mature teen feel free to join up!

    - Have 15 hours a week to play. I'm thinking that about 6 hours a week on 2 diferent nights would be great. However, we could do more if the group feels up to it.

    Default Great Idea

This is one of those "Great ideas" in theory, but in application, in game, it is only so-so.

What you are looking for is like we use to do in PnP and it was a blast and some of the best times.

There are some RL friends who do what you suggest, so it is very possible.

I hope this works for you, but maybe you should check out the "Thelanis Guilds" section and see if there is a guild that might suit your playstyle / time / etc.

There are many good sized guilds that have many people that can only play once or a few times a week.

It would suck for your idea / goal to not work, but if it doesn't, check out the guilds section, because being part of a guild can work for many people who want some steady social aspects like running with the same people over and over again.

Thanks for the advice dude. I do plan on getting involved with a guild after I've been in the game for more than a couple weeks. I was just hoping that this could be a "special project" for a small group of folks who have a similar play style. Even in the past with this game, or any MMORPG, i've found it hard to create an awesome party that really knows how to work together and is well balanced. Its a shot in the dark, and if it does not work nothing gained and nothing lost. Thanks for your helpful advice though. One thing that brought be back to DDO was the kindness and maturity of MOST of its players.

    Default Goal

Ya, no worries... I know I was stating the obvious...

There are a few smaller guilds that do just what you are looking for and is a challenge for any person or guild or group to maintain.

After playing this game for 3 years, I'm still amazed any time I can get onto a team for a few runs in a row that fit well and / or meet / exceed expectations on capability.

There are a few smaller to medium guilds that every, or almost every player is so good that it doesn't matter what class or build they play, they do it well and it's a blast.

The problem with being in a guild is that they are usually characterized by:

Being too large, and often, too thin in quality,
Being too small and not branching out to learn all the content,
    Being too focused on raids,
Being too focused on hanging out that they don't get into raids too often or at all,
    Etc.

They all have a character / personality.

Again, hopefully you get what you are looking for, but in the meantime grab onto whatever team, try out a run or two and if it works, great... and if not, jump off and onto another group and get to learn people and guilds and find one that would work for ya.

My suggestion when you find a guild that looks interesting... speak with the guild leader or a lead officer before you join to see what their rules, mantra, and general idea on gameplay, loot rules, etc. is.

My last concern for your small group is that "usually" people don't want to just play the same class over and over again and also that staying in your own group only or primarilly you get so much less exposure to content and ways completing quests and raids or you have a player or two that can't make the schedule each week and you have to take a pugger or two, thus throwing off your dynamic... then your friend comes on 15 minutes after you have grabbed a pugger and are on the outside looking in and have to pug.

    Anyways... GL.

    MMORG.

PnP D&D was amazing and I still prefer it, but in my life and most people out there, it's just not feasible.

DDO is a viable alternative and requires some adjustments, but is a **** good game and you will find your sweet spot.

Just be adaptable a bit and you will most likely find that it will work for you.
