Default Why Are Handwraps Two Handed?

I've just created a Monk and was wondering why Handwraps take up both weapon slots. It seems that it would be fair for a Monk to be able to wrap the main hand in one wrap and the off hand with another.

Can anybody explain why it is set up like it is?

    because turbine says so

maybe they thought monks have enough benefits for going twf (full str in offhand, no mali, faster attacks, etc) that even more effects would make it too overpowered

Handwraps enchant the monk themself, rather than the item (which is why those kicks do the bonus damage, not just punches).
The same way as your body can't adapt to the magic of multiple cloaks, nor will multiple handwraps enchant it.

I think I prefer having one item that applies to both hands, I really don't want to farm another holy handwraps of weighted 5%.

Personally I like wraps being the way they are. Too much garbage clogging up the inventory anyway.

I'd like to point out that the OP's argument is invalid. The item is called "Handwraps", as is the plural of "Handwrap".
So umm, yea... That's how I died... By they way, has anyone seen my corpse? It isn't where I left it...
