remember when a character died and it was inline with D&D with the lose of xp/levels. Unlike now, where people shrug of death as a minor inconvenience with a minor financial cost.
I remember a guy who died so much he actually lost enough levels and had run every quest so much that it would have taken him the rest of his real life to level back up.

How about when the Guardian of STK's room was at the end of a long hallway that he couldn't fit down, and you could range him to death?

I killed him with my shiny new Dwarven Thrower (I was the envy of all - remember that?).

Forgot one! The curse of Vulkoorm bug that summoned the named scorp from the beginning of OOB while you were in certain quests! Talk about one confusing Invaders run!

Ohh! And the epic short-lived chill shard stack bug! :P

Remeber when to win past the Dwarven black guard in Relic, you had to Pull them all back to the main room and FW then to death from a ledge.

Remeber when the Firewall spell was on a 5 min cool down timer so unless you had stack of scrolls it took age's to get to the king

Remeber when rogues were told to be Trap monkeys and were not allowed to join the fight cuz thay died to much

Remember the hilariously unbelievable lag when the Marketplace Tent exploded and it only took 15+mins to get out of the Inn into one of 50+ Marketplace instances.

When loot running the last part of Co6 untill the wee hours of the morning and killing the 4 fire reavers meant the wizard had to gather them back to the beginning and do a solid fog/Cloudkill combo then Dimension Door and sneak past....good times

When waterworks was the greatest funest quest in the world as a lowbie and didn't feel like a grind.

When one of the only +6 items in the game was the dragon belt and you were a god for owning one =D

When you were level capped and you would have XP debt battles to see who could get the most... (Yeah that happened!)

When everytime you threw a returning throwing weapon you'd get another one in your inventory and the MULTIPLE times this happened and they would shut the servers down =P

    Things I remember not mentioned..

-there was level restrictions for cure healing pots unlike now where new players still don't buy them
-your loot was based on class and clerics would never get any decent weapons to even sell to recoup the cash you spent on wands
-you were so poor you had to pick up the cash from broken barrels (ok so I still do that haha)
-when getting a masterwork weapon to use in the harbour was a decent upgrade let alone a +1... don't get me started about seeing someone run around with a flaming weapon in the marketplace oooo
-getting constantly cursed by kobald shamans and having to go to the tavern to get it removed because you or the cleric couldn't afford curse removal pots
-looting +5 full plate seemed like a big deal
-a +6 stat item pretty much came out of raid loot only
-the only devotion item that was readily accessible was the armour from Delera's (pre-Invaders! quest)
-wand whip healing was the norm even up to lvl 10 cap

*to prove some of this I found one of my earliest screen caps of either the very first or second Von raid I'd ever gone on.

Haha this pic is hilarious... look at what's going on here:
-I'm wearing, the Delera's armour, the helm of flame from Stormcleave
-I'm wand whipping with what I recall was a one handed battle axe of improved devotion 4 (I think I wore multiple devotion items of different levels / effect or was so poor I couldn't afford different armours / helms so I wore it all) with the aforementioned amplification of wands while equipped
-110 hitpoints what the f? I don't recall there being many false life items and if there were any I sure didn't have one
-659 spell points at almost cap? ugh you wonder why I'm still stingy with my spell points? It's because I've gotten used to using scrolls first before spell points for healing. You know I don't even recall there being many spell point items other than the trinket from Tangleroot and the super rare Pearl of Power X haha
-the old school graphic for hold person spell where it looks like some artsy bondage pic

You know maybe my perspective could be a bit skewed since Salkanor and I started this game with a couple friends and we were the only ones that kept playing. We never had anyone to rely on except each other for a long while so we never got into huge loot runs (cept the giant caves haha), raiding etc... WE were the lousy puggers so I just remember being really really really poor and never looting anything. Sometimes it feels like nothing has changed! Last count... 157 Large Bones.
