Default Returning after 2+ years away

Well my brother convinced me to start playing again after several years away and I'm wondering where I should start, whats new, whats old and been changed. When I left my character was a solid build, but I don't know if that still holds true, he's a lvl 9 rogue/2 fighter, I don't have my stats on hand but would like to hear what the community feels makes a good rogue character, my original vision was to spec in trap removal, backstab, and UMD.

Looking forward to getting back into the game after all this time away, I'm East Coast USA and usually will be playing late night (1am-3am).

wow...soooo much has changed since the level 10 cap days. Best thing for you to do is take your old toon out for a spin around stormreach and just familiarize yourself with where everything is, then............................ reroll......... start fresh from the beginning. That is what i had to do and i fought it for a while but in the end I just had to do it. look at some of the class forums and find a recent suggested build type you are interested in. maybe buy 32 point builds if you have the cash and want to save some time. but really just have fun getting back into the groove.

    anyhoo... my 2 copper

oh and...listen, follow directions, be courteous, play as a team, don't be a goober, and have an open mind and you will get along with most of the personality types on thelanis.

    Welcome back,

Bartcom has a good point many things have been added
and many more have been changed....

I would check out the old episodes of DDOCast.
Particularly the consolidated episodes of "Crunchy Bits"

Sigtreant Did a great job of keeping track of the changes.

Also Download the latest Ed. Of Ro s Character planner.

That way you can take a look at all of the changes at you leisure.
And figure out which way you want to go...

    And most of all...

    Have fun!

Feel free to look up Acme too
if you find your old guild is gone and you need a home.

We would be happy to quest with you till you get your feet back
under you, and if you feel we are a good fit, we would glad to have you.

    Happy Hunting!

    And Welcome back!

Oh there's also this new baby: Aristos

my.ddo.com doesn't always work properly, but if you need to check out your stuff quickly, it's a good way to proceed.

Since the days of old, there's been a lot of new loot. Your first step might be to get some upgrades. +6 stat items are pretty common and can be used starting at lvl 13.

Since you are mostly rogue you might also want to investigate the Assassin PrE or the Thief Acrobat PrE

They've made the game quite a bit easier with the dungeon scaling, so go tackle some dungeons to get your feet wet.

I unlocked Drow before I left and have a Ranger 2/ Rogue 1 I'll probably reroll him and leave my main alone for now till I have a chance to get my head around what all has changed since I last played, that and he has a bunch of bound items that I don't want to lose just yet till I know whats whats. I'll look around and see if I can find a link to download that character planner and those DDO casts and give them a read.

I've a couple of questions about the DDO store and getting access to quests that I use to be able to play but can't anymore. I had a mail in my inbox about getting points for having 500 fame and for something else but when I go to the store I don't have any points to spend. How do I get these points? From the little bit that I've read you can also get points for doing quests, are these given out retroactively for players that had done them before the store and free to play came about or are the old players s.o.l.? If I pay to play and get these adventure packs that so I can access stuff and then go to free play will I lose access to the adventures or are they permanently added to the account once their purchased? How hard is it for free to play to get access to old content that's not part of the free to play?

    Thanks for all the help.

    Default Why reroll?

Not sure that you really need to reroll. Why play all the stuff you've already played when there's a whole new level 10-20 world waiting for you. If you are the "max" type who worries that you might somehow be slightly gimped now due to game changes, then you are at least better off hanging on till 1000 favour (for vet status) or 1750 favour (for 32 pt builds) prior to rerolling. If you have any thoughts/plans for reincarnation someday, then might as well use the head start you already have and start experiencing the new content.

(Yes, there's new low level content, but if you reincarnate or roll a new class you'll need to play that anyway.)

Is there a level cap for the free to play or is it open? I still haven't decided on if I want to just re-sub or not. Back when I quite part of the reason is because turbine instead of billing my account at the start of the 3 month sub when I had the money waited to the end of it when I canceled so I wouldn't over draw my account to bill me and it overdrew my account.

I've got a lot of old loot and stuff and not sure whats still good and whats garbage now and I hated the farce that was the auction house, I'm sure I probably lost a few items that where up there, didn't sell and the email's to retrieve them are gone now since its been so long. Has there been any improvements to the auction house and item storage? I see that I have a gem bag and a collectible bag but their gimped and only hold 6 gems and 12 collectible items. I guess that Trubine still hasn't figured out that having all that **** filling up your inventory is annoying to say the least.

I've seen threads about the Assassin & Acrobat thief builds but I can't say I've read much about them yet. I've been trying to go back and run some old quests that I remember but I'm locked out of a lot of them till I decide to go pay to play which wouldn't be till this summer and classes are over. Think the best thing for me to do is take the advice and re roll my drow and start fresh, seams like to best option till I know what I'm gonna do.

Whats the best way of repairing damaged items? I've got some stuff thats pretty banged up and need to get it repaired with the least amount of damage done to it. Did the Haunted Library on elite tonight and it was quite the adventure, we managed to finish tho. Looking forward to dong more quests I picked up the Gianthold, Demon Sands, Threnal, VoN, & VoT adventure packs and the sigil so I could advance to 16th level.

None knows what the best way to repair damaged items is? I know I can have a vendor repair them but is that the best way to avoid them taking perma damage? Is there one vendor thats better to use than others? Should I use item specific vendors to repair (i.e. armor vendor for armor etc.). I would image an armorsmith would be better at repairing armor than say a general vendor, but I don't remember if DDO is that detailed or not.

Anyway thanks for any help or advice you can give, it may seam like a duh bit knowledge to you but be a priceless gem of information for me.

    Fly Safe,
    Okay,

As to Repairing Items. If you can get there go to the Desert.

There is a warforged in the marketplace who can take you.
Talk to a Dwarven Vendor by the Tavern and listen to her stories.
She should have the best chance to avoid Perma Dmg.

The other way would be to Bind the item to your character
but then you would not be able to trade them.
And I don't know if that is what you want.

Right now you require a Level sigil (about every 4-5 Levels I believe)
but as I understand it. Turbine has decided to remove that restriction.

If it is not in effect right now it should be as of the next update.

So you will ( if you still cannot right now.) be able to level with any restriction other
need to buy adventure packs. and if you do have a guild
that should not be much of an issue either with guest passes.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, I have the Demon Sands pack so I should be able to get there. Sucks I just spent 20 points on 2 leveling sigils to unlock getting to 20th level. Oh well, win some, lose some.
