Not really a Khyber player but had a situation where my guild's friday night raid night was hit up by one dude saying he was on korthos starting up and needed 10,000 plat. He hit anyone in our guild that was visible. Some mocked him some of us said no (which he whined about god wish I hadnt been drunk would have copied and pasted the **** it was funny)

Finally we all decided to refer them to more "helpful guilds" thats right if your on sarlona and your guild is being hit up for dough I may have referenced you as a "giving guild" especially if your guild is full of hard asses who hate being bothered in the first place good luck panhandle noobs your going to need it

I've actually only had this happen to me once so far. I was on my elf pali in the House D weapon shop and got a tell asking for plat to buy a weapon. I told them if I had plat to lend I wouldn't be hanging out in the broker.

I had a Cleric hit me up in GH the other day saying that she needed plat to buy a POPX. Only time it's ever happened, so I actually took it as a complement.....considering I was playing my first toon.....a Cleric who was dead broke until level 14.

I told her to go earn it like I did.

I must be a lucky guy to have been subject to this only once. A guy popped up next to me in the harbor, opened up a trade window and asked me for plat. I just wrote him a tell 'LOL' and entered the Inspired Quarter

I don't mind redistributing some of my excess wealth, especially to people who perform exceptionally well during PUG'ed quests or those who make some effort to win one of our regular Hide-&-Seek games. ^^

I'm new; only been playing since July. There is absolutely no reason to beg in this game. Leveling is easy, getting money is easy, you can make it no problem to lvl5 or6 with just the gear you get from Korthos. The problem with the beggar in this game isn't that he is having a hard time, his problem is that he is L A Z Y. I would rather take my plat and buy Pots o Wonder off the trader than give it to some idiot who thinks (even sincerely) that he needs plat for this game. How about you take an hour and run that tavern quest in Korthos about 10 times and sell the weapons? They are pathetic and should be insta-squelched.

Noticed in gen chat someone asking for a handout to buy weps or something.

Note that some players randomly give out things to others ( I am one but not cash) just for the nice feeling of it. But I draw the line at begging, most of us have earned what we have so you can too.

random tells looking for plat=squelch possible /report harassment (if persistently bugging me).

Blind invites are just as annoying. And sending /tell asking for wwhat quest or ahat are you doing? with no response. Why join a party if you don't know what you are running???? Have had a few answer and found that i had completed on elite and low loot content so no need to rerun.

I try to not let my real life sympathy for those who are "down on their luck" impact a fantasy game. No one is going to starve, be left out in the cold, or harmed by the city guard because they don't have PP.

I will say that the beggers add to the "real fantasy kingdom" experience, as every town should have beggars....

/squelch is the way to go for me. Though, if they gave me an option, just for the role playing side of it, I would toss garbage at them or beat them with a stick, or hire them to carry my packs on a quest....

So here's my beggar story from an old game.

I was playing my blacksmith in Ultima Online and crafting at the public forge in Britain. I liked to craft there because there were always a lot of players chatting and I liked the sound the anvil made any time someone successfully crafted something. *CLINK*

So a guy comes up and says "some1 make me somthing so I can get some gold!" Most people ignored him.

Then he says "I am a por new player. Can some1 make me something so I can get gold?"

I say "Sure, hang on."

*CLINK*

I open the trade window with him and in it place a newly crafted shovel.

"dood, w t f is this?"

Me: it's a shovel. Run off to the hills and use it on the rocks. Dig up as much ore as you can carry. Bring it back here and use the forge to turn the ore into ingots. I will then buy the ingots from you and you'll have your gold.

"dood, I wanted a sword!"

You wanted something to earn gold, this will earn you gold faster than a sword.

"F U!" And he leaves. Mission Accomplished

I tell them what brokers are and where they are and that they should sell their uneeded items to them to make money. If they answer back and are reasonable and coherent then I will try to help them get an idea of whats vendor fodder and what to hang on to or even try to sell on the AH rather then sitting in trade seeing if anybody wants to drop 5000pp down on their +2 full plate.
If somebody I didnt know asked me for something useful like a disease immunity item or something I'd probably give it to them if I had it sitting around.
Mostly I just get tells out of the blue asking questions about the game, I'm not sure why they pick me to ask but I like those kinds of tells and I dont mind at all.



Oh btw Draccus, I hope I killed and then ate that player who reponded to your extremely helpful gesture with rudeness. Which is actually a fairly distinct possibility.
