    Default Begging Tells?

I was just wondering how you guys cope with the "begging" tells with new players asking you for money.

In the past 3 to 4 weeks I have seen an increase in them, and I was kinda curious how you guys delt with it.

If/when i get them, I send a /t back and ask if i can be of any guidance. If/when they respond asking for plat or other items, I start off on a long winded series of /t's talking about what it was like when i started and how no one "gave" me anything. I had to walk uphill to every quest, and uphill to turn them in. I went for levels at a time with no boots on my feet even! By the time I get done, they tend to have moved on to other folks

This was a problem that I'd forgotten WoW had until I received a tell, yesterday. I'd received another a couple weeks ago.

1337Panhandler tells you: Could you loan me Platnum plz?
Nellas tells 1337Panhandler: What do you have as collateral?
    1337Panhandler tells you: Wut's colaterul?
Nellas tells 1337Panhandler: It's an item that helps to ensure repayment of a loan.

1337Panhandler has no intention of repaying the 'loan,' and doesn't reply.

The problem I have with this individual is that they're just sitting by a mailbox, going through the /Who List one at a time, Ctrl-V-ing the same request for money. Some, like Saal, send them money or items, thus compensating them for their time, and making it worthwhile (and in their interests). On nights when there are eight Marketplace instances and Turbine's poor servers are having a hard time bearing up under the numbers pressure, 1337Panhandler will probably copy and paste this request to hundreds of people. Do not pay people for doing this, my friends, because the next thing that will happen is they'll be spamming gold farmer ads, next.

Please don't support efforts of this nature and spread the word to those you can: If you give them money, you're paying for their spam.

If I'm running with someone new and they're genuiney trying hard and are enjoying the game, I'll hook them up (and well) - but to a random panhandler.. hell no.

I make em find me first. Then i give them 1 copper at a time. As they continue asking me for more, I give them one more. They usually start asking for PP and I say sure, and give em one copper. Basically I try to waste their time.

Aw man, this is happening here now? Thought I'd got away from that when I stopped playing WoW.

Well here's a trick from a friend of mine (who now plays DDO, he can own up if he wants) if this does turn into gold farmers peddling their wares:

when they /t you with their x gold for y dollars offer, reply and tell them that would be fantastic! Then ask how they wish to pay you the dollars for your gold. Then refuse to understand when they try to explain that they want YOU to spend $, not them. Keep refusing to grasp this simple concept, and keep offering them your gold. In fact, haggle with them about how many dollars your gold is worth. Haggle very seriously, like it was a multimillion dollar deal. Eventually, explain that as far as you're concerned you've saved the chat logs, which clearly record them making the initial offer, which is the equivalent of entering a legally binding contract in your country, and that you will be contacting your solicitor/lawyer shortly...

If you're very lucky, you'll make their squelch list

Its a fun half hour to spend though, and its half an hour where they aren't scamming some poor sod for their money.

I'm sure you enterprising types can find a way to do this to beggars too...

Let them find you, open trade, put a bunch of plat in the window... and walk away from the computer for 10 minutes. Bet they'll have moved on after staring at your money for a while

I dunno, I once stepped AFK in the Harbor, and just as I got up from my chair I saw some random open a trade window with me. I thought no more of it, but to my surprise it was still there when I got back, 20-30ish minutes later.

The guy wanted to buy my sword for a set of masterwork half plate and a +1 Scepter...

As much as I like you, Vida, I regret your having paid someone to send me spam.
