    Default +1 Lesser Reincarnation Feedback

I copied over my very first toon ever, who is now a bank toon due to kinda botching him up He is a 15 Ranger / 1 Cleric / 1 Rogue. I was hoping to get rid of the level of cleric and I have the gear to rework him as a playable character with the new content. So here is my experience. I purchased the +1 lesser heart of wood and used it to reincarnate. I went through the character generation just fine and logged back onto the ship. This is where we could use a little help please. Being that this character was created almost 4 years ago, I could not remember the exact progression of classes that I took first, second, ect. I went second level rogue and it used up my +1 class respec. The only options available following that were to continue my previous class progressions. So this toon ends up a 14 ranger / 2 rogue / 1 cleric.

    Suggestions to fix this problem:

Add in a WARNING: you are about to use your +1 respec" or something to that degree to let the player know that THIS is the one use of the heart.

Add in the previous class progression that was used the first time for the character.

Either way, there just needs to be something informing the player that the use is being applied on THIS option somehow to avoid confusion and end up like I did. Not enough points to try this again, loss of valuable points, and still a botched fairly unplayable character.

    Thanks

I had a similar concern when reincarnating as a pure class from a 19/1 - I couldn't remember exactly what level I'd taken the splash, and was convinced that I'd accidentally used my class respec at the wrong point.

The dialogue later defaulted to the splash class description at the correct level, and THAT was when I knew for sure that I was okay and hadn't used the respec yet. You do get a message each time to say you have one class respec left (don't remember the exact wording), but it was still worrying in case I was about to use it at the wrong level.

I would have preferred a dialogue that stated clearly and simply: "you took <class> at this level, do you want to take <class> again?" The current dialogue is fine for new veteran status characters when you're deciding what you want to be, but can be open to misinterpretation when going through the reincarnation process and adds an unnecessary element of concern about what you're doing! (A warning such as the OP suggested might also work - just something to tell us whether we're about to use up our one chance (or 'n of 3' chances) to rework a level.)

If I may add my own observations about the whole process here, there were a couple of things I was unhappy with.

Firstly, the character creation screen. Would it not be possible to default the appearance to the way your character looked originally? That way, people who were happy with the look of their character can still be happy, and those who only wanted to make minor tweaks in appearance can do so easily. Being presented with a completely random face was an unpleasant surprise for me, and I didn't like having to keep cycling through the options to try and find the ones that seemed as close as possible to what I had before.

Secondly, the UI. I had my hotbars and all the other bits and pieces laid out the way I like 'em, and it was screwed up. The game did give me my two chat windows and six hotbars, but it put them in strange places. I can understand (although I don't like) the hotbars being emptied, since people may choose different spells or abilities to what was there previously. But surely the layout could be remembered, and maybe the weapon sets and equipment could be left where they were in the hotbars since it's all in your inventory anyway? If the game knew I'd had six hotbars, why couldn't it remember where they were? (As I haven't actually played with the 'new' character yet, I don't know if any of my other options have been changed.)

Thirdly, during the reincarnation process the dialogue box didn't close when the levelling box came up, which was a bit confusing. I had to end the conversation before speaking to the woman again to move on to the next level. This happened each time until I used my class respec, and after that the dialogue box closed automatically every time.

Other than these irritations, the process seemed fairly simple and went smoothly.
