For me, that would depend on what race I chose and which racial enhancements they get. As you never stated that, I can't answer.
*edit
After looking at the class/level split again (I'd forgotten the original topic) a shield is almost useless on this build.
2HF or 2WF
To explain: You have to wear light armor in order to cast with no ASF, which means you'll be VERY hard pressed to get an AC worth anything. You also don't have a ton of hit points either.
You will not be tanking. A shield isn't going to change this at all, so do as much damage as possible.

One more question, then I'll be quiet, I promise
I've read that Bards don't suffer Arcane Spell Failure from light armor, and that there are items that can reduce ASF by 10%.
My question is, are there any enhancements/feats that will reduce my ASF if I wear medium/heavy armor? (Remember that I have Bard, Barbarian, and Fighter levels).
Mithral reduces the the armor from the original weight category to 1 lighter, and also reduces ASF by 10%
Twilight reduces it by 10% as well.
Elves (and drow) have enhancements to reduce it further, and even applies to medium armor if you take them far enough.
With all of these in conjunction, it's possible to wear heavy armor (treated as medium because it's mithral) with very little ASF.
But be warned that if you can FIND a set of Mithral Twilight armor, it's going to be a few million gold.... at least.
I'm not sure if this is the ONLY race that does it, but Elves can reduce it for Light (not needed on Bard) and Medium Armor through Enhancements. Costs are 2/4/6 for each level as I remember (so 12 total for Arcane Fluidity III).
AF I takes off 5% from Light (which you already have)
AF II takes 5% off Medium
AF III takes 10% off both.
This reduction does NOT apply to Shields or Heavy Armor.
If you are a Drow or Elf you can reduce it 10% in medium armor:
